Start recording as soon as ableton receives input?

Post by dilshan89 » Sun Nov 07, 2010 2:00 pm

Hey guys,

How do I get ableton to start recording as soon as it receives audio input, instead of having to start playing after a count in?

Thanks xx

Right-click the metronome icon (to the right of the time signature), and select "count-in: none"

Hi thanks for your reply,

What Im trying to do is make ableton start recording as soon as I press a note on my keyboard...as soon as I send an audio signal into it. This way I wont have to press play to start recording, it will start recording automatically. How do I do this?

Thanks xx

Hi, you're best bet for now is to simply record and then trim it down later.

What you're looking for can be done with Max for Live, though, as others have said. Max for Live is a way to run Max, a modular graphical media programming environment, within Live. There are a number of objects specific to Max for Live that allow for smooth integration. Max has a somewhat steep learning curve, but there are a number of built-in tutorials and devices that come with Max for Live, and there's a very active community online around both Max and Max for Live. More on Max for Live: http://www.ableton.com/maxforlive

If you're just looking for this one function, however, then my first suggestion might be a better idea.

How do you set this up in Max? I'd like it if it autostarted record as well :)

use the looper, which has the exact function you're looking for, and then drag the wavform out of it.
