Halloween Double Shot of Drunken Sequencing Goodness

Post by docprosper » Mon Nov 01, 2010 2:02 am

Hey guys, just got two new sequencers posted for Halloween. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any issues with them or suggestions for future upgrades. Links and descriptions below:
---------------------------------
Doc Drunken Pitch
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=432
This midi sequencer uses a drunken walk random number generator, when enabled, to overwrite notes. Parallel velocity grid can be used to change note volume or disable notes. Eight note and velocity presets available, as well as the ability to set min and max note levels via midi key inputs. Enjoy!

hint: put a scale midi effect after this device to instantly generate random, in-tune melodies. Tweak melody to taste by toggling the drunken walk enable ;)
---------------------------------
Doc Drunken Effect
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=433
This midi sequencer uses a drunken walk random number generator, when enabled, to overwrite output levels. These output levels can be used to drive downstream effects, knobs, etc. Eight presets available, as well as the ability to set min and max note levels via midi key inputs. Enjoy!

hint: link to a rack's chain select with different effects spread about the rack chain for beat glitching goodness ;)

...big prop to the Covert Operators for doing the leg work on the output linking, couldn't have do it w/out ya ;)

Sorry, I meant big props to Tone Deft; I ripped that code directly from his (stellar) RMT device. I've gotta stop thanking the Covert Operators for everything...

...and a nerd bump:
I forgot to mention that the min-max-center-span knobs act recursively, which others might find useful for their own devices. The min and max knobs update the center and span knobs, and the center and span knobs update the min and max knobs. I wanted to be able to control the pitch/parameter levels of the sequencer in as many ways as possible. It took a lot of gating to get all this recursion to work without any stack overflows; this was my first tough problem so I'm proud of it ;)

anyway, the whole thing is buried in a "p superknobs" patch. enjoy.

since there's so much forum traffic on this patch [sarcasm], I've upgraded it! Version 1.3 of "doc drunken effect" is now up on M4L.com:

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=433

This version saves the output path with the Live set, which was a difficult problem to figure out. I couldn't get a loadbang to initialize this properly at startup, so there is a "load" button to reset the saved path after loading a set. The good news is that I use a global variable to do this so one load button will reinitialize all instances of the device.

I just love to control parameters with a sequencer...

It's so much quicker then automation...

It's so cool that you do such nice tools for Max4Live fools like me...
No! I'll never use the Push-App Live 9 !!!
