I had a similar thought...
Although with previous versions if you purchase quite close to the update they allow you to get the upgrade for free. I might try holding out until January 17th (or whatever date the sale comes to an end) and seeing if there's any more news.
And that way I can see if I can afford it after the usual binging of the festive period too

NAMM is on January 13th. Ableton aren't scheduled to be there but I wouldn't doubt if some announcement was made during this time.
Yeah that puts it in question doesn't it? Wait for a possible announcement of Live 9, buy 8 and get a free upgrade, or save 25% and buy during their sale.
Decisions decisions eh?

Major Releases
Version Date
Live 1 30 Oct 2001 [3]
Live 1.5 28 Apr 2002 [4]
Live 2 22 Dec 2002 [5]
Live 2.1 24 Jul 2003 [6]
Live 3 10 Oct 2003 [7]
Live 4 28 Jul 2004 [8]
Live 5 24 Jul 2005 [9]
Live 5.2 10 Apr 2006 [10]
Live 6 29 Sep 2006 [11]
Live 7 29 Nov 2007 [12]
Live 8 02 Apr 2009 [13]
Live 8.2 22 Sep 2010 [14]
Live 9 is already long overdue.
I know this is just a pattern but it’s already been out for almost two years, and prior to that Ableton never released 2 versions more than one and a half year apart.

where did you learn how to count?
it's always taken more than a year and a half to release two major versions.
and with the exception of versions 3, 4, and 5 (by just a few days), they've always taken over a year each.
and let's go back... just because some of you have cash burning a hole in your pockets and are ready to upgrade because you have nothing better to do with your money, doesn't mean that Ableton should rush the product out if it's not ready!!!

^^^this!
what's long overdue is a finished & rock stable Live 8
but it seems we are getting there.
maybe you can start counting your 1.5 years when 8.2.2 comes out of beta....

I never said I want Live 9 to come out.
In fact I pretty much don’t want it at all.
it just said it’s overdue for the better (or probably the worst) if all that trouble with Live 8 starts all over again.

I've been beta testing it for a month now and it's pretty solid.
