I saw tons of praise for this app and I really didn't get it at first. I have several RSS feed apps and don't think I've ever been in a situation where an article was so long that I couldn't finish it in one sitting and I'm rarely away from some form of internet connection. Then it hit me how great it would be for music production articles sans all the BS clutter that also appears on web sites.

Anything else it could be useful for that I'm missing?

If you're not doing research then I guess the clutter-free aspect and offline reading are the primary advantages. It's good for me because occasionally there are articles and interviews I use in my research that I can't get through library searches but only from a magazine's website (The Wire for instance). Now I can save them to the iPad so I can reference them whenever I need to cite the info. It also helps with other things like web pages containing charts that I find myself constantly referencing. Being able to have the Max 5 tutorials on the iPad is another plus for me.

As an aside, the whole e-book thing is really starting to get me excited as more and more musicological/music theory books are becoming available. The thought of one day being able to take my entire library (and it is formidable) with me in a single device gives me wood.

I've got to say when it comes to paying the piper I'm always pleasantly surprised when I get my iTunes receipt email. I always expect to be at least twice as much as it actually is.

It's actually more like a trifecta and more than 1 app to do properly. You'll want to get the iPad app and iPhone app and upgrade to the Pro account which will sync both apps and their web site as far as favorites and creating shopping lists. I think it will cost you less than $10 total.

Not only can you search their huge database of user, chef, magazine, and book submitted recipes but the apps also allow you to intelligently find recipes based on 4 variables.

Dish(s) - dinner, breakfast, appetizer, etc.
Ingredient(s) - beef, vegetables, fish, etc.
Cooking method(s) - grill, bake, slow cooker, etc.
Time - 20 minutes or less, 45 minutes or less, etc.

You can pick multiple choices in those variables. Once you make your choices it picks random recipes that fit your criteria. Fucking awesome!

You can email recipes, add recipes to your favorites in different folders, and have it generate a shopping list which you can also add random things to that aren't part of the recipe, email just the shopping list without the whole recipe, and both the iPhone and iPad apps have the shopping list page but I don't know who the fuck is going to bust out an iPad at the store. If you upgrade to the pro account it all syncs up…create your shopping list on the iPad but use it at the store on your iPhone.

I've been using the site for quite a long time and have found tons of great recipes and the user reviews and alternative tips to the recipes are quite helpful. Having the apps now makes it the best thing EVER.

The new Djay app for iPad came out today and is AirPlay capable, but can I stream the mixing to my Mini which is hooked up to the stereo in the living room? Fuck N !!

I must say that I'm not quite following your dilemma over AirPlay/iTunes. Between AirPlay and the Remote app, aren't you pretty much covered? Except for the DJ app thingy, though.

I'd like to add that while the remote app works as advertised, it's ass trying to quickly find and cue songs in comparison to doing that on itunes on the computer.

Also as far as I know it only controls songs that are in the library on the computer you are using, not shared libraries from other computers. My roommate and I often spend at least 1 night a weekend tossing back drinks while listening to our shared libraries on iTunes. If we could just beam songs from our idevices it would really help with calorie retention by defeating the constant 5 foot walk back and forth from the bar to the Mini. I'm talking big issues here.

Hmm. Gotta remember that Remote and AirPlay are in their infancy. There are certainly limitations, but I gotta believe they will be enhanced quite a bit. The shared thing is a case in point. As long as all your machines are on the same network, the Home Share thing should be transparent across all libraries. I think that will happen.

Streaming from your library to a device? Even over 3G? It will prolly happen, but I keep reading that it's the LEGAL issues from the media companies that keeps holding that up and not so much Apple.

I've found the Remote app response is only as good as the network signal strength. I mean, I'm on a 1st gen iPhone that's slow as fucking molasses, but as soon as I moved my router a bit closer to my AirPort Express.....BAM! Response time greatly increased. The connection startup is still slow, and I'm not sure how you would implement a constant Remote connection without draining the battery.

I think I was wrong about my point of making the current state of airplay being a good ploy to make more people buy an Apple TV because it could be a ploy to get more people to buy idevices if it streamed through itunes.

Imagine you are at a party and people are taking turns airplaying their tracks to itunes while spinning plates, my fantasy so both those last 2 points are valid. Then it gets to Christoph van Shlephiemer and all the ladies are dancing around him in anticipation for him dropping the next bomb. He reaches into his pocket and produces an android phone.....
















Christoph pees his pants in embarrassment and makes his way to the Apple store post haste.
