My mate uses Wavs and I must say the SSL 4000 EQ is incredible. I'd buy that on its own...

-Waves Linear Phase Multiband compressor(part of the Waves masters bundle) : sounds really transparent with near invisible(?!?!)compression and is an absolute joy to work with.
that being said,i only use it to master other people's mixes when it's either not possible for them to go back to the mix,or when they're lazy to go back to mixing.

-Waves Maxxvolume : really wonderful plugin,i only use it as a gentle upward compressor when mixing/mastering(if needed)

those were the only tools i needed that were simple to use but very good-sounding,and couldn't find those anywhere else.

for the rest,Sonalksis & DMG audio stuff and Izotope Ozone's 4 limiter(plus the above mentioned) are all i need for mixing/mastering.

MaxxBass is still the best type of plugin of it's kind.

Other than this, I don't think they have anything which is a 'must have' which you can't buy from someone else, such as Sonalksis, Sonnox, Sound Toys, or UAD etc.

I like their API bundle and some of their newer plugins are interesting such as Maserati's plugins, but not essential.

Having said all of this, if Waves were to offer me the Mercury Bundle, I wouldn't say no.

Waves C4 Multband compressor. I use if for years to build my bassdrums from standard bassdrum samples.

the L series limiters are amazing for mastering... and I have an AudioTrack plugin on just about every.. audio track. All waves plugins blow Lives' out of the water. If I didnt have the native version which cant do sidechaining I would probably not have a use for any of Live's plugs. I know ableton developers are brilliant, why cant they create plugs that stand up to waves?

Most of the time I use either the Renaissance stuff, or the IR convo reverb, and I really like the H-Comp and H-Delay

Some of these "Signature" bundles seem a little gimmicky to me - the Renaissance plugs are already modeled on the Pultec gear, yet they for some reason went to the trouble of modeling X big name producer's own personal Pultec gear and charged hundreds of dollars just so you too can be like X big name producer. I get that there can be some little variations in the hardware due to imperfect components etc, but I'd be very surprised if 99.999% of the worlds population could tell the difference.

I agree with you, so would never buy JJP or CLA or Kramer for those reasons. Maserati's plugins are at least a bit better and have some originality in their designs (or at least morph more than one idea).

But the API series is great, and the SSL4000 EQ as mentioned is great.

L1/L2. The L1 almost always finds it's way onto a vocal track. CLA compressors, SSL, API, Maxxbass, R Vox, C4. Also like to use just a splash of Enigma or Mondo Mod on certain tracks just to give them a bit of movement. Also really digging H-Delay lately.
