Just finished this electro-acoustic thing - mix help needed
Hi there
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1247155/Fall%20fallout.mp3
I just finished the first mix of this new elctro-acoustic-ish song. It's some of the best stuff I've made for a long time if you ask me
I am sending this track with my application for the academy of music in Denmark, so I would love to get some comments on the mix.
Thank you
Best regards Nikolaj

Hey Nik. Sounds pretty good from a mix perspective to me. A very interesting etude and dialog. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your submission.

Sounds great to me. The mix seems balanced, I hear all the little weird bits. I really like the ambience of the song.

hi Nikolaj,
well,it's nice too hear and see(after analyzing the waveform) that it has dynamics in it as well,it automatically makes it better to listen to,and non-fatiguing.so thanks for that!
a few things i noticed(in your FINAL MIX) :
-to my taste there was a bit too much bass in the kick,3 dB less at around 100 hz makes it more balanced imo,it seems as if that is overpowering the rest.
-it might help to take out some mud at round 300 hz,750hz,some harshness at around 1800 hz.the biggest problem i heard was at around 3600 hz(which started at around 35 seconds),that literally peaks(the human ear is most sensitive around 3000 hz).
this is just a quick overall eq i did on it though.if you need more advice just let me know.below i posted a screenshot of what i actually did(nevermind the wide Q at around 3600 hz,forgot to narrow it ) :
other than that,nice work!
best,
Wasili

Thanks a lot guys!
@ Wasili:
Do you think I should do the EQ'ing on the master track, or on the individual tracks?

whenever it's possible to go back to the mix to do a fix,do it.deHaan wrote:Thanks a lot guys!

because if you apply eq on the master, you will affect everything in the mix, which is probably not advisable and/or desirable.
remember(as cliche as it may sound) : a good master begins with a good mix,and a good mix might not even need mastering at all.
