i would hate to see apple buy Ableton. i am on live 6.0.11 at the moment and will be until the day i die if they do.
Most of us do just get on with it. Online, or if you're unlucky enough to have a friend who switched, then you'll run into fanatics.
Thing is though, like I said, if Live was to be bought by Microsoft, I would simply get a PC, or get a copy of Windows and use Bootcamp, so with that in mind, it's painfully obvious that if you're willing to switch your favorite applications because of corporate takeovers then it's you who can't get on with it. Food for thought, and why this joke thread is such a great troll of PC fanatics.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty good indication as to who brings their laptop to the coffee shop. I definitely believe that Apple has more than 50% of the coffee shop market. :x

Maybe it's just because this area is so into computers, but I see a ton of families with a PC desktop and a macbook pro laptop, literally half or more of the people I visit or do work for, try to wrangle that into a lame ass joke about turtlenecks. :P

and i'm sure the users of said Macs near Redmond are just as snobby if not more so than the typical coffeeshop crowd. what happened to the days when going to the coffee shop was about being sociable, not sticking their usually up-turned noses down into their computers? i think the cold weather may have frozen their sphincters to the pole.

here's my side, and it's well-documented in these forums as well as indisputable fact. Apple is over-priced, over-rated, and technically speaking is a "PC". So why pay so much more for so much less?!

Hey! I was saving the turtleneck joke for the next post! :x

Anyway, just taking the piss (which is the only way I'll ever be involved in a Mac v. PC thread). I've been using Macs at
school and work since '97, but I've always used PC's at home. I can't stand Macs - I hate mostly everything about them and
their OS, I don't care much for Apple (though I do own an Ayephone  ), but, most importantly, I don't care what other people
prefer (except when ignorant snobs buy Macs because they are so much "sexier" than a PC).

In the 2 years I've known my boss he has bought 3 new PC laptops sighting what a POS his current laptop is along with a complaint list about Windows. Each new purchase is preceded by staring at Macbooks and in the end it comes down to price difference and he goes with the PC, which he ends up hating and like clock work I tell him he should have gone with the Mac and he calls me a cocky asshole. And repeat.

What always gets me is people comparing the price of Macs to PCs like it's the difference between buying a dozen eggs or a house, and by my estimate my boss has spent about $1,000 more on his total 3 PCs than I spent on my single MBP which has worked fine in the same time frame. And if you could translate frustration into dollars then he also spent a lot more than me.

And don't get me started on simpletons who do little more than check their email and look at porn who get roped in by impressive looking specs on a cheap POS computer….also my boss.

Just as annoying as us Apple fanboys' blind obedience to Apple is the PC fanboys who think every PC user has the knowledge and interest to not fuck up their computer and know how to fix it when they do. False.

I've always wondered about the coffee shop business model. "Customers" buy one drink and take up a booth all day using up the wifi and electric, and no new customers can get in.

I once had a complete stranger get mad at me at a bar for talking on my cell phone because they felt I should be socializing with the people in the bar. I would have gotten mad in return but I agreed with the principle. If you're just going to drink and watch the TV then you can do that at home. But then again, there are those unfortunates who can't stand the people they live with who would give them endless greif for such bahavior.

You know what's worse than snobby elitists? People who assume that everyone who doesn't do things the way they want them to is a snobby elitist. Case in point, my tenured college professor friend who uses Macs who likes to spend some of his online research time in coffee shops rather than in his house, which can lead to distractions. The guy is far from an elitist, but with your attitude you would snub him before he opened his mouth, because you've stereotyped anybody who buries their nose in a laptop in a coffee shop with your little hate wand.

BTW if Apple are over priced why is Apple doing so well in a recession? Basic business models apply here, not your opinion on their pricing structure. You think they're overpriced, obviously a whole hell of a lot of people do not. Nothing in your opinion about the price of Macs makes it a fact. It's a bad argument at best, "The equivalent PC if built from scratch blah blah blah." Who cares? don't buy it then, jumping in to every Mac VS PC argument with the same tired shit doesn't automatically make you right. They make the OS and design the computers to be pretty much 100% free of conflicts and long term issues, they have a right to charge what they want to, you have a right to not buy them, end of story.

Overrated is another personal opinion. Personally I like the OS better, it's up to you to decide witch you prefer, but it's inevitabley with a complex system like an OS going to be about personal taste. Too many +1 Win7 on xx and +1 OSX on yy to make anything more than a personal opinion about it. I will say this though, OSX is far more geared out of the box for working with audio, that, is an undisputed FACT. Just like RME stating that OSX currently handles USB audio better than Windows. Now, we are talking about audio work with a computer right?

I run 6 tracks of looper with 8 return channels full of fx with drum loops and samples on a computer I bought for 250 bucks. Guess which type it is.

If Ableton Live ran on Linux I'd be there in a second. If Apple bought Live I'd use Usine, or Bidule. Screw your image, use what works for you (I'm a film guy that shoots digital, a Gibson guy that uses Fenders, and a Mac guy on a PC. What-the-fuck-ever).

Caring about giant multinational corporations is silly - they don't care about you.

That's a nice headspace to be in, but the MacHeads have a religious fervor mixed with a "creative aire" (AKA my shit don't stink), and they bring that to the table.

And there's always a plethora of PC users that paint everyone using Apple products with their little hate wand. People prone to making vast sweeping generalizations about the users of Macs seems to be a nice little archetype that plenty of PC users fall into. Including you apparently.

IRL though it's never a big deal, only online, go figure.

Seriously, I meet someone doing audio work on a PC and we tend to talk more about the cool applications that are OS specific (Glitch on PC, Metasynth on Mac etc.) in gearlust at each other over. Pretty much never about which is better. If that happens it's generally recent PC users, people who just got into computers, who hate on Apple to the point they want to argue about it IRL.
