Need Help Producing in Ableton

Post by herringbone » Tue Dec 07, 2010 5:05 pm

I have Ableton but I'm not sure where to start. I don't know if I should use the instruments it came with or download new VSTs and even if I had everything I needed I still don't know where to start. I can't really just play around with it, I want to know what I'm doing cause I want to start producing now.

This is the kind of music I want to make like, electro pop I guess? I haven't really been able to find any tutorials for ableton on the genre either so I just don't know how to start and I feel really lost.

It's going to take a long time to get going with producing. It's not the kind of hobby you can just pick up and master over the weekend. I would really start with working your way through the entirety of the Live manual to see how the program works and how you do certain things in it. When you're familiar with the Live, then look at playing around with it and coming up with sounds and such.

Actually, the Digital Music Doctors tutorials give good tips on how to mix. It's a big paradox, how bad their audio examples sounds, but they give great advice!

I'm sorry to say that there's no easy and fast way to learn producing music. TBH it takes years to make good and original tracks. You may want to watch some basic tutorials on youtube and go from there. Best of luck!

I subscribed to these guys when i first started.

http://www.sonicacademy

Theyve got a good introductory tutorial and loads of different tutorials on how to make different genres.

I just looked and theres a nu-disco tutorial on there. Not sure if its the sound youre looking for though.

Its got a good community though so maybe they can point you in the right direction
