Ableton wont install on win7 64-bit...?

Post by snadge » Sat Dec 11, 2010 1:34 pm

Im trying to install Ableton on my 64-bit version of windows 7 - unfortunately when i run the installer nothing happens and windows becomes unresponsive - ive tried run as admin and in vista sp2 mode but same thing happens... i have to shutdown the laptop and sometimes that takes more than 10minutes after this happens - i thought it may have been norton360 but shut that down and still happens?

can anyone help?

thanks

Norton HAS cleaned up their software a bit lately so it's not quite as bad as it once was but for a music PC Norton software is still rather bloated and will only use more resources than it should. I've never seen a reason to use an all in-in-one suite like 360 in Win7. You're fine with whatever security stuff the OS comes with PLUS Windows Security Essentials for an antivirus.

Norton NIS2011 was excellent - really light on system, I used it for 90-day trial... ive always just used AVIRA FREE and thats that (no 3rd party firewall or anti-spyware)... now im just using that again for scanning and not actually have it running as a real-time shield - i use Zone Alarm Firewall now just as a basic I/O firewall in-case any nasties DID get on i would be notified if they tried to 'fone home', i wanted Outpost but free version doesnt work on 64-bit and Comodo is just too beefy and resource hungry.

so now im not even using an Anti-Virus....just firewall... i know you might think this un-wise but I know what im doing, ive never suffered an infection for years because I know what it takes to get one... I'm a P.C. Tech so know whats what.

Yup. Back in the Vista days I didn't even use any anti virus software and noting bad ever happened. When I installed Win7 I decided I might as well test out something and Windows Security Essentials turned out to be quite good and efficient.
