AVG 2011?

Post by sporkles » Wed Dec 15, 2010 1:14 pm

Has anyone upgraded? How does it compare to AVG 9, particularly concerning resource usage?

I changed to Microsoft Security Essentials, it's low resource and free and it had really good reviews.

I used avg for years before discovering avast! - much less of a resource hog and also free.

AVG2011 effectively freezes my machine for over a minute on start up and by default installs a tool bar in firefox that occasionally crashes and makes it hog 100% of whichever core it's running on.

I've been thinking about changing for for a while. Might try the Microsoft thing.

I like AVS better than AVG too, but I am happy with MS now. If you have something against MS (like me) remember they make your OS and Windows 7 is pretty good actually.

Well, that's two new installs for me today: Microsoft Security Essentials and Firefox 4 beta 7. I'm not noticing any major effect so far,
but according to my task manager, it's hogging way less resources than AVG did.

Thanks.

Word to yo mama and get rid of that Firefox crap - that's SO 2008! Chrome's got everything: Adblock, extension, shortcuts for search engines and it's the fastest browser of all.

Nah... Google is now the Man, so I'm sticking it to him. But I recognise the fact that Chrome is super fast.
