good quality tiny mixer? please suggest?!

Post by miercoles » Sat Dec 18, 2010 6:22 pm

I'm looking for a very small mixer - something that can comfortably fit on a table top with a small footprint. I'm selling my Onyx 1620 and I'm hoping to upgrade. Of course, less channels is fine, but smaller is a must! Also with preamps that are usable for actual recording... thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Soundcraft Notepad 102? Or stick with Mackie & go down in size to the Mackie 820i...

Been looking for this too, I think the market for something extremely compact & high quality is very small. Hard to believe, considering how common it is nowadays to do most of everything inside the box...

Or why not take a small step up from the Notepad 102 to the Notepad 124
Sweet little thing - and not that expensive

Really nice.
No cue/solo though. Seems like something necessary is always left out! :x

Maybe this?

Does it have to be a table-top model? There are some high quality rack mount mixers manufactured by Speck Electronics, APB DynaSonics, Rane, & Ashly that offer a lot more audio quality bang for you buck than any small table top mixer.

Thanks for the suggestions!!!

How do the preamps on the Soundcraft boards compare to the Onyx?

and I'm definitely open to rackmount options too! I would love to have something that I can comfortably use the preamps for recording - not as my main mic pre, but still a usable option.

Most of the rack mount options don't have preamps, but a few do.

This one is high quality & has mic pres:
API (ATI) 8MX2

They have other options too: click on 'Rackmount'

Rane have a line of rack mount mixers: some have mic pres:

I used to have a couple of SM82 mixers that were quite good, no mic pres or cueing though.

As does Ashly - look under 'Analog Mixers':

This is actually pretty high on my wish list:
Speck Electronics X.Sum: it has 4 buses & can be used for quad speaker applications:

This looks cool: it's deep though, the photo is misleading:
