Re: fastest, quietest hard drives
If you have the $$$ to blow, I'd go for SSD.
They are the fastest and quietest, if that's what you're after.

Siso80, you should check http://www.silentpcreview.com
Personally, I would ignore Maxtor, Seagate and Hitachi. Western Digital and Samsung should be on your to-consider list. SPCR will tell you more.

Re: fastest, quietest hard drives
i lately came along a phenomen regarding stage laptops that was new to me.. the new fast and high capacity laptop drives are more sensible to bass vibration.. rebooting a laptop on a bassheavy stage can be impossible with the new drives..was only able to manage it by holding the laptopn in my hand while rebooting.. what really dont helped for a seemless reboot..
so.. i go ssd as soon as possible for my stage laptop..
seems that evrything comes with a price.. small drives that get faster more and more and more capacity and vibration dont go well together.

Re: fastest, quietest hard drives
Well, that sounds weird, and I am happy I didn't opt for a 1TB drive for my laptop yet. Any recommendations for good and maybe not too pricey SSDs of a reasonable size?
But what's the use in that

Re: fastest, quietest hard drives
I would recommend SSD Intel® X25-M SATA 80 GB (2,5").

PCIe drives are the way to go, way faster than Sata SSD's

Those 2 brands are the best rated.
Only for PC though, there is no PCIe SSD for MAC (((

Re: fastest, quietest hard drives
if you're getting a ssd - get regular platter based drive for backing up..
i recently had a intel x25-M SSD crapout and after talking to intel's support there's no recovery options for ssd drives.. luckily only my OS was on the ssd and a few important files (ableton unlock, emails, pictures) so i didn't lose too much.
knowing there's nothing they can even do made me think twice about putting anything that's not replaceable on these drives.
