Anyone here have a launchpad and an iPad?

this is a good question, I ask myself if the launchpad is obsolete now with the griid on an ipad available - or if the tactile feeling is missing so much that's not a replacement. I know that a touch screen can never replace a good feeling knob.. so...

The virtual knobs in TouchOSC/LiveControl show you what the parameter is, so compared to say a row of physical knobs with no visual indicator as to what it is, it's ideal. Of course the feel is not there, but really it's not a biggie for me.

I think for some controls touchscreen fader are ok, but when you "play" knobs in a musical way (volume 'riding', filter) I really prefer good knobs. I have problems even with encoders. It's similar to a good piano keboard vs. a cheap synth action.

That's why I ask myself if triggering clips via touch screen is a worse than triggering them via rubber knobs on the apc/launchpad. I haven't tested a launchpad or an ipad for this, so I have no idea how it feels. When not I can't see a reason for a launchpad.

You can set up an ad hoc network and connect directly with a Mac.

I too have been wondering if I need a piece of hardware or this now.

I've had TouchOSC on my phone for a while, but I tend to just show off to my mates like some kind of magic device rather than actually working with it

One thing really handy on the Launchpad is that you can arm tracks exclusively, best if you intend to use Ableton as some kind of keyboard sound module on stage. For recording/arranging/inventing I had completely left the Launchpad aside since I received my iPad some days ago. Guess it's a matter of time until iPad apps allow solo arming as well (thinking of touchAble in particular)...
