what's wrong with the autofilter 'quantize beat"?

Post by peeddrroo » Sun May 29, 2005 1:51 pm

there's something weird about the "quantize beat" function in the autofilter: in the manual, it says that if you choose 16, the modulation will be changed (how? is it random?) every 16th beat, 4 is quarter notes and so on. which seems pretty logical.
but actually what i hear is that the 16th modulation happens when you click on 0.5, and quarter when you choose 8, and so on... everything seems to be just the other way around.

can someone confirm this behaviour (you have to select sample&hold mode)? i just can't imagine that nobody's ever noticed it... 8O

i'll give this one a little bump.
anyone to confirm the strange behaviour of the "beat quantize" values in the autofilter?

hi peeddrroo,

if you enable the quantize option in autofilter, the filter frequency is updated from the lfo/env follower with the quantize rate whereas 1 means, every 1/16 note, 0.5 every 1/32. so its 1/16 note based.

what the manual says is: "The numbered buttons represent 16th notes, so, for example, selecting 4 for Beat value produces a modulation change once per beat."

try this: select 4 as quantize option and choose a low lfo rate (0.5Hz at 90bpm) and full modulation amout (30). you will hear that the frequency changes every 1/4 note.

kind regards,
matthias
