Which DAW?
Which DAW?
Hey,
Im completely new to music production, but i want to make it my career and make it big (free lancer, working in a record label company etc)
I have a Macbook Pro fully tweaked up, but i have no idea which Program to get..
I am in to the techno genre ie. electro house, trance, progressive house etc.
my influences are Deadmau5, Tiesto, Calvin Harris.
I also like my Club bangers, hip hop and RnB.
I would also like to Record a few acoustics and compose for acoustic instruments like John Butler Trio etc.
Having done some of my own homework, i have looked at Ableton, Logic and Cubase and they do interest me quite abit.
All in all, i would like to compose electronic music, RnB, Hip hop, Club bangers, acoustic (eg. The script, John Butler etc) but leaning more towards Electronic Music, and also do a few recordings.
Which leads to the ultimate question....
What DAW should i get, which matches my wants as a producer!?

All you need is a good recorder. Like this one:

Cubase:
http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cu ... rsion.html
Ableton Live:

Really it's not about what people suggest, so much as your own experience with the software. I started with reason, then rewired to logic, but then I found Reason rewired to Ableton with NI instruments as well as a number of other plug-ins was a lot more my thing. Really just demo whatever you can and see which works best with you, and go for that.

Re: Which DAW?
That's a bit of an odd question here at the Ableton Live Forum. I started with a Fostex X-15 and now i'm on Live 8. I can recommend going this way.

Reaper.
Re: Which DAW?
So much status quo noob greatness in the OP.
If he'd edit it to shimmy Daft Punk somewhere in there I'd give it an A.
I'll give it a solid A+ if he responds to this saying Daft Punk is crap compared to his other influences.

Re: Which DAW?
don't worry about it, you've put yourself out there as a noob and are being hassled as such, though it is a little odd coming into a daw-specific forum and asking "hey what daw should I use" because you are likely to get fundamentally skewed responses that way. As previously stated, run through some demos, and see which one clicks with you, or get ableton, like 95% of the people in this forum will suggest.
Re: Which DAW?

or Reaper
or Fruity Loops Producer

or Pro Tools

Re: Which DAW?
They're just having a little fun is all. Look, just try out the Live demo. It doesn't matter which DAW you make music in. And since you are already here you must be curious about Live so just jump in with both feet. Watch a bunch of tutorial vids at this site and YouTube and when you get stuck, come back and ask specific questions.Krndmr wrote:Why must i be kidding?smaucher wrote:you must be kidding, right?Krndmr wrote:Hey,
