How to adjust audio slices Recycle style?

First off,

I'm totally in love with the slice to new midi feature and I think this has answered a lot of
prayers to people that love slicing samples. Having said that, I used to do things the hard
way by importing .wav file into Recycle and manually adjusting the "slider" which will automatically
detect the hitpoints.

In Ableton, when I slice to new midi track, I have the option to select "warp" or "transient".
Under "transient", Ableton automatically detects slices for me (a simple vocal track may consist
of up to 85 slices!), but in most cases, it will slice WAY too many audio slices for it to be
anything useful for me (auditioning audio slices mapped across 85 keys is not a fun task).

Therefore, my question is if there is any way I can manually adjust slices via Recycle style
(adjusting a slider from left to right)? I couldn't find such function nor could I find anything
about this feature in the manual. Furthermore, if this is not possible, could someone explain to
me if there is a workaround for this, in step by step instructions?

I understand that one way to do this would be to manually adjust warp markers and choose "warp"
when slicing to new midi track. But assuming I was too lazy to manually adjust warp markers, is there
a Recycle style function that would automatically detect them for you?

I've never used Recycle and so I don't really know what you mean by the slider, but could you not just adjust the warp markers (i.e. remove unwanted ones) before slicing? Maybe not the quickest method but at least you won't have a load of useless slices.

Hi, Happy new year...

now the for the bad news...

If you want to get something like recycle style editing happening in LIve you have to be prepared for a rough ride.

There is no slider for detecting transients.

The closest you can get is to open up a beat you wish to slice properly, and drag it to the arrangement page. Click on the waveform to focus the editing on the clip.

Then follow the shortcuts i have put in my signature, below.

here they are anyway:

ctrl + left/right = select (move to) transient

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

ctrl + space = play selection

ctrl+ shift + drag to move the transients.

You can delete Transients by selecting and pressing backspace.

It is very cumbersome compared to recycle unfortunately. They need to sort it out!

2.You can hear the slices before you slice, you can add compression/eq/stretch to each slice. You can zoom around quick and easy, hearing each slice before commiting.

I didn't mean to sound like I thought otherwise. I can imagine it is better for that very reason.

Doesn't Live detect transients too? In what way is it different to Live? And, although not exactly the same, can you not listen to the clip from the warp markers or position you'll slice to? Or even just slice and then if you don't like it, delete the track and do it again? And you can apply effects to eac individual slice in Live too, can't you?

Again, I'm not meaning to be defensive of Live and I appreciate that Recycle is better at this generally. I'm just wondering in what way. Maybe I should just demo Recycle!

its cool bro, i was just explaining.

Live applies its transient detection and asks you if you want to slice (eg from the browser) without allowing you to really get in deep for precise edditing before commiting. There is no sensitivity adjustment like recycle.Nor any official auditioning (between transients).

You really don't want to have to attempt slicing a complex break, and then have to do it all again when you find out it missed a slice.which is something that happens a lot when you start out trying to slice in Live.

Also Live does not provide crossfades on the slices (stretch) when it arrives in Sampler. That sucks too.

Like i explained, you can do it the "recycle" way in live, but its just a very cumbersome work around, that is not mentioned in the manual probably because of that reason.

a workaround (but boring i reckon) could be
to create a new track, put a gate on it,pick your original track at input.
adjust the threshold and check until slicing is ok, then reduce the gate time so it generate utra shorts peaks.
rec this as a clip same lengh than orginial.
redrop your original wav on the new auto warped one.
for more precise stuff i guess some multiband gate rack will give finer results.
