....I watched a Mile Davies doc about 3 yrs ago and got mega hooked.

I'm like, 44 and used to F/FWD the Mile Davies bit on Montery Festival back in the day!

Stanley Jordan and Jaco Pastorius worth a listen to as well - NB: Give Jaco's band Weather Report a miss tho... Apart from Birdland it all sounds like TV Quiz show theme tunes! (In fact i think most were used as 70's tv quiz themes!)

Jazz maaaan!

Kind of like a bluer-blues...can't think why it went over my head before?!

cool 8)

Have you checked out his autobiography? One of the most jawdropping books I've ever read.

Can recommend any of Wayne Shorter's albums from the early '60s.

McCoy Tyner.

John Coltrane's utterly mental live version of 'My Favourite Things' It's heavy shit, amazing that four acoustic instruments could make such a racket.

+1 for Mingus. Coltrane of course. Eric Dolphy is a fucking genius. Chick Corea's early stuff is pretty cool.

also love the 70's jazz fusion stuff- miles, herbie hancock, john mclaughlin, jaco pastorius, joe farrell.

if you think jazz is for geezers check out dr. nerve, skerik/critters buggin, john zorn/naked city, sex mob, gutbucket. some punk shit- love it
