I've started learning how to use ableton a lot better lately
One of the most recent things being using more background ambience
The only thing i used besides ableton live 8 suite presets, is the minimoog for the sub bass (Which clearly needs more filtering in this mix [was mixed on headphones, i apologize for not having studio monitors yet]) and also a few other hi hat, kick and snare samples, as well as a few random effects, with the help of the TAL-Dub II and 3
The sound is somewhat of a dub since it's near 140 bpm, but it's more ambient sounding (well, my first attempt at it, i'm almost there.)
I like where i'm going with this idea and i've also been working on a few other tracks
please let me know what you think i would appreciate criticism as well as complements, but criticism is important so i can improve.
I just need to know where i'm lacking.
I want to eventually make enough material to start playing live shows so that i wont have to be mixing other peoples music very much into my set
just let me know what you think of it, it's the unmixed version that needs more mastering, so brace yourselves and be patient and relax:

Re: new ambient/dub track
Ayup!
This is a style I like a lot and the track certainly doesn't disappoint anyone who's into dubby ambient. Mixwise I think this is nice. It could always be cleaner, punchier, have more bass etc, but it's a question of taste and doesn't necessary fit the style.
My main criticism would be with the arrangement. Some rhythmic elements are a bit static and could probably use some variation, even if it's subtle. Maybe a tighter basic groove would help ? Steal something from a loop ? You introduce quite a lot of cool things at the end which could probably be introduced earlier and repeated for good effect. But simplicity is also important in a track like this so don't go nuts.
That FX delay sound that comes in early gets repeated a lot and gets a bit tiresome after a while. I would work with it a bit more. The second break could be tighter.
Now it's a cool track so don't take my suggestions too seriously

Re: new ambient/dub track
thanks for the reply
thats what i need though, is criticisms, thanks
i've come to learn some more about fixing the sub bass and making it punch and then smooth out, but that was what i needed, as my work is starting to sound more like i want it to, i just need to be able to use the program better
Which FX delay sound do you mean? ive used a few of them the one that i think you are talking about is the one that is just two long notes that repeats each few measures, if not theres the one that just kind of comes in a little subtly and gets strong but goes away, then theres the weird spacey one that i almost took out completely, that is kind of high pitched
And I also need a little help with the return tracks as i havent used them at all to be quite honest
thanks for the reply though, it can only help me
