HUGE DEMAND FOR THIS FEATURE... Master Scenes Follow Actions

Post by audiojunkies » Tue Feb 03, 2009 8:14 am

People are crying out for a master scene follow action feature.

Especially useful for the Live gig, for triggering full parts of songs or sets in order, and then being able to dip in and change a song on the fly and then if left let it trigger all master scenes if Follow action feature is set on the master track!

i would like this feature too. but i think it might have a few problems. follow actions work as "groups" that are vertically touching. i use alot of scenes to make one "section" of music. extra scenes for dummy tracks and fills and variations. my "play next scene" would fuck everything up and play a flanger automation and a drum fill.

what i REALLY think should be added is the option to REMOVE PLAY BUTTONS from scenes. visually, this would organize things like nothing else, it would also make the use of follow actions work with scenes and clips.

something like this. the scenes are 'grouped' by touching vertically, but you won't have clips group mingling with your other scenes

don't really understand what the remove play button would do.......agree that scene follow action would be sweet.....but why can't you just highlight all the clips in a scene and set them to the same follow action, i've seen it done many a time

look at the picture again,
you can have follow action "groups" on the clips independently of having follow action "groups" on the scenes because the scenes can have variable verticle height.

That and it organizes ideas better i think. for me at least i tend to use many scenes for one idea.

Essentially it would be a vertical "group track". would be cool if it was collapsable like the new "group track."

el_camello.. I like your idea..I work the same way. Remove play button is a neat way of preventing accidental triggerring of follow action clips and making follow actions logically applicable to scenes... cool ...

Interesting...

It would eliminate the need to "always" have to set manually the follow action of clips for each track of these "vertical" groups that will play by default *sequentially* (in a row) unless set for some different/random follow action.

Additionally, each Scene could be considered as a Marker that coupled with a Song Mode Track would allow to mimic a cool feature of Cubase 5 : the Arranger Track.

Is this feature still not implemented in Live 8? Or am I missing something obvious? (Yes, I did RTFM) I realize that a follow action could be applied to each clip but I would think there's an easier work-around. Any help would be appreciated.

I never use follow actions, because using a dummy clip is so easy!!!

Just map a midi note to launch scenes,

create a midi clip with the midi note inside, after the number of bars you want next scene to launch.

Make sure the output of this midi track is set to IAC driver or Midi Yoke

follow action is done!

Interesting! How would you make the next scene play after, let's say, 16 bars?

I haven't tested this, but in the current beta version there is SCENE command that you can include in your x_clip script. it launches the scene that the x_clip is on. so in theory you could use follow actions on the x_clips.

Me! Me, Me too!

Yes, ClyphX or IAC will about cover my ass, but would be so much easier to be able to follow action scenes natively...
