Re: TouchAble - complete controller for Ableton Live & IPAD
No news on updates/new features?
XY pad option? It would be great if any parameter in touchAble could be mapped to an XY pad that's part of that FX device.
Or a series of knob style controllers.
Most times there's only a couple of settings people are interested in tweaking during a performance....

Workshop was great as far as i've heard - unfortunately couldn't go myself.
i think there should be footage available soon.
New templates might be added with the coming update if things go quick. Else we'll start pumping out templates in a few smaller updates after 1.2
a few things from the coming update:
Performance gains in all regards (latency & fps)
New FX section design, including relative mode option, new control elements & a snapback feature
and as special guest: XY Pads with secret super powers!
now - what could that secret super power be?
don't worry - design & colors will change
PS: Adding generic XY pads to the FX devices seems like a great idea - will definitely delay the update by a few hours though - you can say thanks to loopstationzebra

Will you or will you not be providing support for the Camera Connection Kit in the next release?
Go.

btw, get prepared for the new update, as usual we are a bit in delay on our planning, but it highly deserves it,LoopStationZebra wrote:

Don't make me keep connecting wirelessly. That's all I ask.
Okay. I'm asking for super duper XY pads as well. With gravity/physics.

You already know how to do it,LoopStationZebra wrote:Don't make me keep connecting wirelessly. That's all I ask.
jailbreak your baby, and use mywi (with an additional cost for mywi)
But frankly, I really don't figure out why you absolutely want to use usb....
Wifi connection is flawless (use share connection if you are on OSX as it is explained here: http://touch-able.com/Site/AdHoc-Guide2_Mac.html)
and the new update will offer you the smallest faders latency ever, we improved it, more than we could believe.
Actually, we've been receiving emails from pro users every week, saying that the use of touchAble with wifi connection is a pure joy, studio or stage...

Re: TouchAble - complete controller for Ableton Live & IPAD
I do use it wirelessly. Every day and at gigs. It works great. My request has nothing to do with whether or not it works and everything to do with managing multiple apps and protocols
I use MULTIPLE iPad apps for performances; each one using a different fucking connection protocol:
touchAble uses it's own touchAble server via wifi
Konkreet Performer uses OSCulator via wifi
nLogSynthPro uses the Camera Connection Kit (no wifi)
Pianist Pro uses the OSX MIDI Network (though now supports the CCK!)
MidiPads uses both the OSX MIDI Network and the CCK
Molten uses OSX MN and the CCK.
The list goes on...
Each one that uses wifi requires a certain setup and management. Sometimes the apps are a bit buggy and forget your connection type. Or, in the case of OSX MIDI Network, you have to MANUALLY hit the connect button each time you switch from one app to another. In fact, you often have to QUIT out of the app in order to reset the network connection.
A simple, standard, USB connection option solves all of that nonsense. It's no different than the time honoured hardwire MIDI connection with hardware. It's there. You don't have to think about it or agonize over it.
And the latency will always be less than any wifi connection.

Oh, and let's not forget that - regardless of what you are hearing from your 'pro' users - app developers have been recently going back and adding support for the CCK. And with devices like the Alesis StudioDock, USB MIDI compatibility makes even more sense.
Regardless of how cool wifi is, I don't know why you would limit yourselves to just that connection type. You've gotten so many things right with touchAble, but routing flexibility isn't one of them.

As much as we would like to offer an alternative (e.g. USB cable) it is not allowed to us by apple.
The new MIDI capabilities of iOS 4.2.1 don't help either, as touchAble relies only for a smaller part on MIDI information but for the bigger part on direct communication with the Live-API.
