max5.8b - live.observer - bug or new design?

Post by Palmer Eldritch » Mon Feb 21, 2011 12:24 pm

In further max versions one can write the property of a live.observer directly into the object box. (for example | live.observer color |)
Now this does not work anymore.
When I instantiate a device with a live.observer where the property is written directly into the box I get the error code "unidentifiable C++ exception" in the max window.
Unfortunately, as I am a lazy guy, I have written those properties very often directly into the box. Hopefully this is a bug and not final design of live.observer in MAX 5.8
Otherwise I have to rewrite a lot of my devices to get them work again :(

1) 8O You guys just blew my mind.

2) Looks like one of those live.observer bugs where it works in a device but not in the editor.

Hi Stefan,

thanks for your very fast answer :D
(and also thanks to you, hoffman2k that you also have spent your time for trying to reproduce the bug) :D

Ok, after trying to reproduce the bug from the scratch it was not that obvious as I had thought at first.
But then I had investigated the structure of my older devices and found the solution. The bug becomes very obvious in subpatches and especially in subsubpatches > "unidentifiable C++ exeption" error.

So, below is the code for an example to make the bug clear. (inclusive explanations inside of the re-pasted code):
