Soundcloud/Audio Hosting alternatives

Post by ARDJ » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:15 pm

hey guys

beyond youtube, mixcloud, soundcloud & myspace where else are you guys hosting your music for streaming? I don't care so much about mediafire/zippyshare etc, i'm looking more of a place you guys try and promote your music

They are all just dumping grounds for previews of stuff to me and random shit for me. So I prefer soundcloud for that job - just a quick and easy way to share stuff with people I know either private or sometimes public when I dont care who hears it and posting it there for a web forum (not this one I might add).

Never for promotion though - there is simply no substitute for proper active promotion and you own decent looking web site etc no matter how many people you spam via track sends on sound cloud, myspace etc :)

All there other who try to support paid download seem to be either useless to driving listeners, or turn into total spam fests evenually. I guess in the end, its either dont play at all, or get with a label that can get you out via beatport/itunes etc. Pretty much like the old days really - just millions of indies now.

If you want to drive traffic - youtube vids are pssibly still by far the most effective method with carefully chosen tags, but every tries tag spamming these days too.
Nothing to see here - move along!

bandcamp is really good. So far the best looking site IMO, allows to sell your files or to offer them free. You upload wavs and they offer download in a variety of formats then. You also can generate download coupons that you can give away when selling merch.
