I hear ya. I'm just having a general Live hate parade this week. Fact is just about every other DAW out there can handle way more plug-ins before they start choking. Sounds like you've gotten so used to Live that you think it's normal to have to worry about conserving CPU from note one and you don't see this as an inconvenience. The grass can be greener, my friend.glitchrock-buddha wrote:Whoah slow down.
It's quite simple. See I don't have music related problems. But I do have a tendency to make choices based on conserving cpu sometimes so that I don't have to freeze/bounce. I also dont' like to have certain synths run at higher sample rates even though they do sound a bit better, since I want to conserve cpu. This is quite a speed bump so I don't have to think about conserving cpu nearly as much now. It just helps focus more on what sounds best vs. what uses an acceptable amount of cpu to keep everything live and unbounced.
This computer won't write magical songs or make my battery last longer. But it'll probably do exactly what I want. Give me more cpu. There are resons people like to use MacPros. I like laptops.

Well, we do realize don't we that the new MBP are twice as fast as any previous generation?

Yeah you're pretty much right on. I have accepted the fact that I can't use as many plug-ins in Live as in say, Logic. The thing is, I own Logic 9 and have had Logic since way before Live, yet I continue to use Live because I just like it more. So if I gotta keep my cpu meter around the 60% mark, so be it. The grass may be greener, but once you get there, it might also be overgrown and weedy.beats me wrote:I hear ya. I'm just having a general Live hate parade this week. Weird article. Says they are dual-core but they are quad-core.LoopStationZebra wrote:Well, we do realize don't we that the new MBP are twice as fast as any previous generation?

You guys are nuts. These new MacBook Pros are awesome.
Thunderbolt is totally sick. It can act as six FireWire ports.

yez, and this is me saying this in a clear considered manner-- not the muffled, distorted frenetic voice of, say, LoopStationZebra as heard whilst feverishly tongueing the taint of his full-scale Jobs blow up doll.

Re: new macbook pro w/ new I/O: could be DAW game changer
Again, I get the anger about the snail's pace vs cost increase ratio of Apple's laptop upgrades, but....the speed has supposedly DOUBLED. That's No Small Thing.
Next-generation quad-core and dual-core Intel processors.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro now features a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor or the fastest dual-core processor available — the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7. With Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz, these processors allow the 13-inch MacBook Pro to perform up to twice as fast as the previous generation.1
But we couldn’t leave fast enough alone. The new 15- and 17-inch models bring quad-core power to almost everything you do. The available 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor — with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz and up to 8MB of shared L3 cache — enables these MacBook Pro models to run applications up to twice as fast as their top-of-the-line predecessors.
