i cant run akai apc40 and mpk49 at the same time?

I have been using my akai apc40 with Ableton live very successfully and happily for months with no problems, but now I have purchased a mpk49 from akai aswell and when I try to run the two devices simultaneously it does not work its either one or the other. I can load the apc as an audio usb device no problem and it launches clips and the transport control works and everything. Then I plug in the mpk and it will only allow me to assign it to usb device as well, and I do this and the apc continues working normally and the mpk wont work. So I reboot Ableton and now the mpk works fine but the apc does not even light up until I unplug the mpk and restart Ableton again. What the F***s the big deal!!! I really need to run both devices at once. I’ve read the manuals of all devices involved thoroughly and cannot suffice any solution and I am at my wits end, any suggestions?

Odd, I use my Apc40 and mpk25 together all the time. What kind of computer?

I have both and run then together all the time... are you on mac or pc?

on my mac I can plug the acp40 before or after doesnt matter. I tried it on my friends pc and had to turn it on and plug it before.

On my mac I need to plug the mpk49 AFTER ableton openned is for it to work... never worked the mpk49 on a pc

i have exact the same problem..

running on a Mac Pro.. APC 40 and a MPK 61.. now i will buy a Novation SL 25... this will work

i'm pretty sure i have heard of this problem happening before ant the solution was to rename the in/out ports because they are both called "Port 1" "2" "3"

I have a macbook pro and and have both running at same time no problem... I have all ports activated in midi settings. So ableton recoginse the mpk49 as 3 different surfaces...

in your original post it sounds like you plug in your MPK after running Live... you need to have both devices already connected to your computer and turned on BEFORE you run Live.

it should solve the problem.
