Show & Tell: my cool DIY Midi controller for Ableton Live

Post by nickfrancis » Tue Mar 08, 2011 6:33 pm

I've been using Live for about 5 years and last year i decided to build my own controller for it. I call my controller "The Choppertone". DJ Tech Tools just featured me last weekend:

And since I make my living as a Jazz guy of sorts (I'm the music director at KPLU-FM in Seattle); I did a demo video, mashing-up an old Jazz classic.

I love Live!

Yo im from seattle too... used to play at jazz alley growing up. KPLU is the best for jazz.. word up! i also been remixing some jazz songs.. im doing a "smoke on the water" jazz version from the 70s... its not done yet, but my friend was asking how to do it so i made a tutorial on youtube.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwvZhSqHXHI

anyway it would be awesome if u played some electronic jazz remixes on KPLU late ant night or something haha... really bringin it "back to the future".

Nick,

That is fantastic, and a beautiful machine. Hoping I can do this to some day but the though of trying to get the brain (the adrino, that is, not mine) to work scares me!

Well done, loved the videos too!

Good Lord that's fantastic. I just saw an article on your controller over at synthtopia.com

Excellent choices in music as well.
