If your studio desktop is connected to the Apple Airport by ethernet, and your iPad is connected to the Apple Aiport by Wi-Fi, then yes, you could use Griid & Kapture like that.ze2be wrote:Ethernet. I can connect it with cable to the net yes. The ethernet/tv i/o box is connected to an Apple Airport. I use only the laptop and iphone on the net. Studio desktop is not connected, for security reasons. But I guess its ok just for this.NICKBUGAYEV wrote:Is your studio desktop connected by ethernet to a wifi router? Something a little bit different this time guys.
We've very excited to announce that Ableton have featured the updated version of our Kapture Max for Live device in their huge Max for Live update. Some incredible patches by Robert Henke, Henrik Schwarz, Alexkid and others too.
Watch the video feature and download Kapture 2.0 here: http://www.ableton.com/pages/max_for_live/kapture
Kapture Max for Live V2.0 features the Global track filtering feature from Kapture Pad too.

Kapture Pad is a fantastic app . Two feature requests :
- overwrite an existing snapshot
- automatic renaming dialog after kapturing a new snapshot ( same as saving a new bank )
cheers

Thanks for the feedback! You're not the first person to ask for this. The challenge is finding a mechanism which keeps the current simplicity and straight-forwardnes, but also offers the option to overwrite (or re-order) global snapshots. Kapture was always designed to be extremely simple and extremely powerful: one button kaptures the whole Live set. I'll keep my thinking cap on.
Cheers

Re: Liine iPad/iPhone Ableton controllers:Griid Pro gets Miixer!
As for overwriting a snapshot, wouldnt it be sufficient to just tap an existing snapshot with 2 fingers to overwrite it?
Even with the screen-estate of an iphone this would still be kind of reliable, I guess?

That's a cool idea, but I think it's a bit dangerous... imagine this: you have created a great sounding mix, and you want to overwrite a global snapshot. You go to tap with two fingers, but you're just a bit too quick and the iPad detects a single tap. Instead of saving a snapshot, you just loaded an old one and lost your Live settings.
It's the thing with multitouch gesture.. on the iPad, when you tap an icon to load an app, or to open an email.. Nine times out of ten it works, but then one time you actually scroll instead of tapping. That's ok, you don't really notice because those functions aren't mission critical.
In the case of a music app like Griid or Kapture controlling Ableton Live, especially if you're on stage, you can't afford the controller to not do exactly what you expect. That's why we try, as much as possible, to create a UI in which it's impossible to get a wrong gesture. That's why we disabled scrolling in the clip grid: if you tap a clip, you know 100% for sure that you will launch a clip. No danger of scrolling.
That being said, we 100% appreciate the feedback and welcome UI and features discussions!
Cheers,
Nick

The big difference with the iPad 2 is indeed the increased processing power. The custom graphics engine we're using in Griid - while already very smooth - renders with a much higher fps [frames per second] on the iPad 2. Basically, Griid just got even smoother.Anubis wrote:just curious, what's the difference? does it take advantage of the increased processing power vs. iPad 1?NICKBUGAYEV wrote:Another day, another update live on the App Store... this time it's for Griid & Griid Pro

Re: Liine iPad/iPhone Ableton controllers:Griid Pro gets Miixer!
Hi everybody, couple updates this week!
- Griid manual is out, with all the details on note editing & sequencing in the Cliip MIDI editor.
http://liineblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/ ... mentation/
- Video demo of Miixer. Get your headphones on and check out the precision faders.
http://liineblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/ ... -tutorial/
Also, we've just submitted a new update to the App Store with In-App purchases for Griid users. You can now get Cliip or Miixer. A few nice little improvements too: Cliip will now remember the view offset and zoom level for every single clip. You can jump from editing a beat in one clip to a bassline in another and the note grid will be right where you left it.
