I have read that this was done in Cakewalk years ago via an integrated plug-in called "CAL?" It basically separated different instruments from a single MIDI source into several tracks within the DAW. Has anyone tried this with Ableton? Did I miss this part in the Ableton Live manual, if it is already a feature?
I am using a Roland TD-9 kit in my studio, and although using it for both audio and MIDI purposes have been great, I would like more flexibility. Having each one of my drum pads fed to a seperate track in Ableton would be ideal so that I can push not only individual effects to that pad, but also do more mixing and audio control with it when working into a piece of music.
Thanks in advance for the responses.
Cheers,
zc
Single MIDI track to multiple tracks?
Re: Single MIDI track to multiple tracks?
So essentially you need to convert one midi track with all the tracks into several discrete tracks?
What you need is a program that can convert the midi type from MIDI type 0 to MIDI Type 1 ( i may have that backwards.

Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

Sort of. Just for the sake of seeing if we are on the same page....
The MIDI track I am creating from my TD-9 contains hits or beats generated from each pad in the kit. snare, bass, cymbals, all have their own little "notes" within the MIDI track. I want to have those notes, still particular to that pad (snare, bass, etc.) seperated to their own track.
I looked at this and it may be what i need but I have no experience with this plug-in. http://www.midi-plugins.de/mplug/mplug-splpat.html
Re: Single MIDI track to multiple tracks?
can you set each pad to a different midi channel?
then, on each Live track, set the input to only listen to one channel
