Crosstalk - OSC api -(this is spam. yes it is.)

Post by Surreal » Sun Apr 10, 2011 2:07 am

I launched a kickstarter to work on a OSC spec to facilitate inter application communication!

Please kick in and/or spread the word!

While I agree with you in principle. Shel, I would give anyone with 500-odd posts the benefit of the doubt. It's not like he just signed up to advertise.

He's trying to raise money to develop something that's going to benefit *some* people on here.

Personally I like seeing these kind of endeavours.

Give the guy a break.

yeah, how on earth are you offended by someone asking for support to develop a useful application? Its not spam, this is directly relevant.

I am certainly thankful for the support, but ShelLuser did contact me privately to explain a little. I didn't originally say it was spam in the title, partially because I felt it was relevant enough and partially because I did want the attention of anyone interested in an OSC api, regardless of whether they want to kick in some money.

It's all right.

Okay but I do think the bumping is a bit much.

Livecontrol exposes the innards of live, but you still need to work pretty hard (ie, read the documents they lovingly create) Crosstalk would enable you to map simpler controls on the fly without knowing much about the underlying format.

the best explanation i can think of right now is this. If you open up your computer in an area with four visible networks, you just see them. you didn't do anything (usually) to see them. if you try to connect, you have little idea what IP you receive or what port number such and such app is using. you chose connect, and it worked or it failed. fin.

other benefits would/will be automatic layout generation for things like Control and TouchOSC.

think about midi. a keyboard and a pad controller are not that different to your daw. OSC confuses this sometimes because of how specific we can make our parameters and controls.

Yep. Despite of how spam it can look like,
i think it's a great project.
