Really cool generative sequencer, any1 know a VST like this?

Post by Jimmyprice » Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:43 am

I saw this posted on this forum a little while ago but no1 really suggested any good ways to duplicate it or similar sequencers in VST form...

http://www.earslap.com/projectslab/otomata

Is there a VST or any other way to duplicate this kind of note sequencing effect that that would preferably sequence the notes into a MIDI map so you could edit them?

I'm on mac by the way

Cheers! would really apreciate some suggestions

ball sequencer: http://www.upland.no/plugins.php

BallSequencer is a sequencer VSTi based around the idea of MIDI messages being generated by balls moving around inside a rectangular area. Notes are triggered whenever a ball collides with the boundary of the rectangle. You can set parameters that will control the movement of each ball, in addition to possible note and velocity values.

Check out these apps:

Nodal - http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~cema/nodal/
Elysium - http://lucidmac.com/products/elysium
Numerology - http://www.five12.com/

Nodal and Elysium are standalone but if I remember correctly you can route the midi into Live via IAC. Numerology can do IAC, Rewire or you can use it in Live as an AU plug. You don't get the visuals with Numerology but you can get really decent generative things going with the latest randomization features.

Hope this helps a bit.

Numerology is a wicked modular sequencing tool.
With lots of randomization options, and cool modules.
If you are familiar with modular routing, this thing is a beast.

The Reaktor instrument Newscool works on a similar principle.

if you have reaktor, spiral is a nice generative sequencer

this isn't a VST, but you can wire it into Live easy enough

I think you can get it through the NI service center.

Ok, not a VST, but my ex and I built this 7x5x7.5-foot LED board that outputs MIDI based on what is displayed, including a Conway Life routine.
