i got the deadmaou5 xfer sample pack, which is pretty awesome. it has some loops, but it is 95% one shots...i also bought tape drum machines vol 2 by goldbaby....it seems like a lot of their sample packs are primarily one shots also.....

Vengeance are quite good in that respect. Wave Alchemy are ok, but some of their samples are in the wrong key and they dont reply or sort the problem. Zenheiser do some small one-shot packs, not sure how people rate them. Where is all the oneshot and multisample stuff? Does everyone who buys packs actually want so many loops?
Off the top of my head - Goldbaby's stuff is one-shots, there's Ian Boddy's Drumalogue which is fantastic, some of the Bitword Oxide packs have one-shots, the Waveshaper kits are good as are Driven Machine Drums.

Absolutely, I've got 5 main stays in my library, I don't need or want any packs beyond that.

Funny, I prefer loops than one shot

I don't think i have ever used a pre-made loop.
Have you checked out the Puremagnetik site? They do some cracking little instrument multisample packs, new one every month and if you subscribe they are very cheap. I love the randomness of them, one month its a classic organ, next it's a moog opus or a sampled kid's toybox. Great inspiration to be had and when i get bored, drop the samples into alchemy for some mangling.

i use most loops with the 'slice to midi' function. lots of one shots in a few seconds.

Interesting thread. I'd love to know what 3phase thinks about using loops.

More annoying is magazine reviewers who highly praise a sample collection. You buy it based on the review and you find it is mainly rubbish.

I have 5 sample collections, all had rave reviews and I will never buy another. Don't believe the hype. I prefer making my own loops. The only use bought ones have for me is to get the creative process going. Once I have the groove going, I delete any 3rd party samples and build things up with my own playing. Unfortunatly, I can never get the clarity and quality of recording that sample CDs have. Something I still need to work on.
