help choosing audio interface
Anyone have any experience using an audio interface with ableton?
I'm looking for one that has at least 1 mic and 1 instrument input (2 mic/instrument inputs would be cool too). I don't know if it is possible, but it would be great if it could take the signal from each input and route it to a different audio channel in ableton (so as to manipulate each separately). I'd like to use it for both recording and live performance.
A cheaper option would be better, but I would still like to prevent sacrificing sound quality if possible.

I figured that was the case, but I was wondering if anyone had specific experience with any that would make me not want to buy them (i.e. problems with latency, audio quality, etc).

my experiences have been bad with m-audio drivers, specifically firewire drivers.. the sound of the card wasn't bad at all, but driver developement was very slow.. i am on osx so maybe pc users might have better luck.. i've had good experiences with motu, and especially RME..

PC here and have had a great experience w/ my firewire solo. Never have had an issue w/ it, plus it frees up a USB slot for a midi device.nuxnamon wrote:my experiences have been bad with m-audio drivers, specifically firewire drivers.. the sound of the card wasn't bad at all, but driver developement was very slow.. i am on osx so maybe pc users might have better luck.. i've had good experiences with motu, and especially RME..

Budget?
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

I have this and love it:

i've never had a single problem with it. none. almost 2 years.
I'm thinking about buying this one next:

if it had phono jacks i'd have been rolling lose change and digging through the sofas by now.
