seq~ in maxforlive help/ideas

Post by ned rush » Fri May 06, 2011 5:39 pm

been trying to find a away to loop midi in live using a maxforlive device. had quite a lot of joy with this and am really excited, but i faced a few problems that are beyond my knowledge and wanted to share/ask for and tips.

first i would like to know how to link to global transport to the play message in seq~, i thought maybe using live.observe unless there is another way, forgive me but i'm not very clued up on max. the other was getting the phase or start of the rate messages for the phasor to start when the global transport starts, as you'll notice in this patch the phasor keeps ramping even the the global transport has stopped. in reaktor (at the risk of making a faux par) you have a clock start/stop module which performs this function when using sequencers. i've had a look at the transport object and somethings make sense, but really i am struggling with getting the phasor start to work with the global transport...

anyway, if anyone would be kind enough to offer any ideas or would like to collaborate with me on this (even though i'm a noob) i'd be grateful.

many thanks
ned
:)

Very interested in this. I started to make a midi looper with seq but found it real tough as I couldn't seem to record and play at the same time I ended up trying to use 2 seq's and feed them into each other, mixed with performance midi. It got a bit messy so I sidelined it.

Didn't realise seq~ could record midi also. I can send you what I had if you like.

yeah why not. i've finished something thats totally useable and loads of fun. i'l be uploading it to maxforlive.com soon. right now i'm jsut trying to pimp the interface, trying to find ways to get various things to count and stuff, like visual metronomes, not needed at all but just fun.

i'm also looking into optional auto quantize, but for that i'm gonna have to lift some stuff from other peoples patches, provided they dont mind of course.

here is it.

please comment or get involved. i think it would be a cool little thing to develop.

its basically a midi phrase looper. great fun to use with drum racks and would be handy at gigs as you could assign the record and clear buttons to a controller and managed your drum grooves without having to keep and eye on the session view. :)
