i know it like the back of my hand. where everything is, how everything works, what app to get to take care of x, y, z... how to tweak this, how to tweak that... so yeah, i miss that. 7 has had me a little befuddled at times. still does from time to time, but instead of throwing my hands up saying "fukin microsoft..." i've found that breathing deep and saying "now why would they do it that way?" adds a brief period of contemplation before i throw my hands up and say "fukin microsoft!" :P

i agree though that XP is pretty bad ass once you know how to use it. i hope 7 gets a good long stint like XP did. 8 years** is a great run for an OS.

** treating Vista (2006) as if it never even happened. XP downgrade baby!

Actually it was quite well advertised that Macs did get malware on a mass scale a couple weeks ago. It was a file called MacDefender claiming it was a virus protector but it's quite the opposite.

Quite shocked this forum wasn't abuzz with "Ha!" about it.
About time, hate to think that having ESET on OSX was a complete waste of money :)
Nothing to see here - move along!

meh. there's no sense gloating because more people have to waste their lives trying to remove some pathetic ad campaign's rogue attempt at being clever or some twinkie eating introvert's attempt at being responsible for pissing off as many people as possible. i think the whole virus/malware issue fukin sucks. its a shame anyone has to deal with it.

it's bound to make its way over the Mac threshold though. the product placement in movies alone is enough to drive me to want to do it. :P

anyway... there'll be plenty more where that came from. honestly if you haven't already, you should grab yourself a free Malware cleaner for a Mac. temporary files have all kinds of information about you so clearing them and having a peek for bogies via the Malware cleaner is just a good idea. its like a prostate exam, you probably don't feel like doing it, but it could save your ass (n'stuff).

The funny thing is that Mac's legendary reputation is what caused it to be so successful in the first place. Mac users have a "I can click on things and install shit all day long and nothing bad will ever happen" attitude. Throw in some recent PC to Mac converts who think anti virus software is a necessity and I'm sure that explains a large percentage of people who installed it.

FFS it even asked you to enter your password before it would install. Fucking morons. :x

Has anyone seen this month's Sound on Sound with the iPad music-making feature? It spurred me to finally get over the shininess and see how much I could integrate it with the music setup.

I had no idea that you could just route MIDI wirelessly from your Mac (I now realise it has been mentioned multiple times in this thread, but 1 year and 160 pages?!...) This blew my mind, but what made me jump up and down like a madman was the realisation that my 88-note controller is USB class-compliant and I could just plug it straight in to the iPad via the camera/USB connector and start rocking. I know it's a simple thing & I'm about the last to know but this is a flipping cool thing to be able to do.

I was already impressed with the Garageband instruments in the context of their layout/velocity tricks etc, but having them under proper MIDI control made me realise they are actually viable instruments. As an aside, I take it there's no trick to recording CCs apart from Pedal Up/Down?

Then I got going with TouchAble and TBH I'm still reeling... damn things have come far from when I was fudging around with AutoHotkey trying to map the QWERTY keyboard to mouse actions :) I still need to get the workflow right but I'm so flipping impressed. And the balls... THE BALLS!!!

Ahem. Anyway just wanted to share the magic. Oh yeah and since I've just moved my setup to another room and don't have the monitor plugged in to the Mac Pro yet, all of the setting up was done wirelessly via Jaadu VNC on the iPad.

This changes everything. Again.

And I hear Magnum (Lion) is going to blow us away...

Actually I haven't heard that but the keynote looked promising.
