Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
Are you serious Scu?
I thought you were already a power user of all the Live stuff.
I've just replied to another thread concerning Operator etc., and I'm
a third party plug in whore.
I'm no expert but I find third party plugs to be more inspiring due to the presets and their tweakability.
I've trawled thru loadsa presets in Analog and Operator but haven't been inspired to tweak 'em.
When you load up Sylenth or Zebra or.....blah blah....there's something that makes you want to tweak.
This is my opinion and I won't be held responsible for it.....

I only have experience with operator but I can say it doesn't sound too "digital" and it has a lot of potential. It mostly does fm synthesis but also has some additive synthesis and subractive synthesis capabilities. Very flexible.. of course I've only heard nothing but good things about Zebra.
Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
They are both awesome. I would totally get Zebra if you could only have 1. It can probably do just about everything that Operator can (4op FM, custom waveforms) but it can do so much more. Especially if you are investigating Analog as well. Zebra can combine different oscillators (fm and analog style), and Zebra has crazy amounts of filters and routings too.
Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
Go Zebra over ACE or Operator. Get Operator later.
Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
you realize that Operator is strictly an FM synth and Zebra is an all-powerful hybrid synth? I guess I don't understand the one-or-other mentality here, they are quite different instruments....certainly Zebra is the more versatile, but Operator is a quality instrument all the same.
In any case, Zebra is IMO the best software synth on the market. So you can't go wrong there.

when I see the price of zebra, you can upgrade from live to suite with 33% off and get every ableton instruments.
Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
I'm not here to push anyone buying ableton.
Just a weird thing to go for one expensive vst and not for a whole thing.
Have you ever trial ableton for 30days? gOOD way to really make your own idea
Best

Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
you can trial suite without suite exe
I'm the proof itself, I'm using suite with the live installer, every instrument is there, even max content.
I was hurry to reinstall live and didn't notice I used live non suite installer.
the only missing thing is amp and cabinet, so now you got no excuses

Any other day I would go for zebra. But while the 33% off Sale is running (through june 5 now) makes it the better deal

Re: So, should I get Operator or Zebra?
that is a tuff one..suite or zebra..
suite is pretty dope
zebra is pretty dope lol
sampler and operator are what sold me on suite,
i like electric too, i love collision but can't really use it live
till i get a more powerful machine.
but if you don't need sampler
zebra2 is simply amazing, and its very easy to learn how to program.

If you want to learn synthesis, I'd go w/ operator. If you want to tweak presets, go w/ Zebra.

Zebra is not a huge download, have you trialled it yet? I'm pretty sure if you do, that will seriously help you make up your mind. Sure, it is not the cheapest softsynth on the market but it is quality. As for Ace, I have it and love the sound, really rich and powerful but it needs a powerful computer or you will be freezing a lot of tracks.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Zebra is one of the most powerful and flexible synths on the market, to use it as a presest-tweaking synth is basically a waste of time and money. Operator is strictly an FM synth -- so if you're going to "learn" synthesis on it, you will exclusively be learning FM synthesis, which is leaving out, oh, 85% of synthesis education.

And honestly I found the presets on Zebra2 to only be so so most of the time.
