Would be a bit easier if you'd tell us what kind of music you do.

Razor from NI and Dune from Synapse Audio are quite good IMO.

I can recommend the following synths.

1. Reaktor - a big load of sound / my most used vst since years
2. Operator - nice n relative simply synth
3. Massive - versatile & good sounding - i love it
4. FM8 - very good Sound & complex engine
5. Synth 1 - THE free synth :)
6. Analog - really cool & easy to use, a workhorse

I often use Live Sampler/Simpler or Kontakt to turn a simple sound into something.

Nothing new, but new sound is related to knowledge and imagination. That's my opinion.

thanks for the quick responses!

doing mainly dance/hip hop/some dancehall -

I feel like there's room for almost anything as far as synths go these days. ...so I guess that's why I wasn't so specific. My goto synths lately have been Arturia collection, Sugarbytes Unique, FM8 - I'm really quite open to anything. I guess I'm looking for either something super new school digital sounding, OR something totally old school analog - does that narrow it down? hahaha!!! some 90's sounding synths are the only thing that really turns me OFF!

Razor's good for this.

Zebra 2 is next on my list of sound toys to grab when I have a few extra bucks lying around.

omnisphere is reallly good like a quality workstation without the hardware
also absynth is good too for some dark wet sounds

One of the best synths to come along recently is ElectraX by tone2.

The tone2 dev is a bit of a dick to be honest, in fact I think he's a complete ass. However ElectraX is a fantastic synth. They got another guy on support there who is incredibly friendly though.

Besides that Omnisphere is rockin' it as always and Alchemy is pretty darn cool.
