Well its apparently only just over half the speed of my macbook pro running the 8 track test on win7/64 or OSX with same audio interface, but the 2.3GHz i7-2820QM CPU and 1333MHz memory.
At 64 tracks I think it was on about 80-85% CPU - never checked at 32.

I would have expected a lot better from the CPU (18-20%), but who knows what OEM support hardware and crippling is in it, memory, HD etc.

Try searching up for the base spec 2011 15" MBP - probably the closest CPU (i7-2635QM) - same speed etc I think, just different package and gfx may be a tiny bit faster.
Nothing to see here - move along!

so yours is twice as fast but mine is 1/3 the cost ;)

I checked the windows resource monitor while running the ableton test, and it peaks at %20, it says ableton is using 8% of my cpu and the next highest on the list is System Interupts (deffered procedure calls and interrupt service routines) at %2 - anybody know what that is?

why does ableton show the cpu peaking so much higher than the windows 7 resource monitor?

also, my computer is showing 8 processors on a quadcore, so that means hyperthreading is enabled. does anyone know if I disable hyperthreading will live run better and have less of a load on the cpu?

thanks,

Jeff

Anyone got an iMac 2011 ? I would be interested in the results, especially for the i7 3.4 gHz...

Updated Performance Test... I resolved the issue as to why the cpu meter was running higher than it should have been.

At first I thought it was because hyperthreading was enabled (there is no option in the BIOS to turn it off). I also had previously uninstalled all the bloatware and optimized my computer for audio. The only software I didn't uninstall was Asus Power4Gear Hybrid. It turns out this was the cause of my Ableton CPU readings to spike at 29%... see original test below.

1) 29% (peak)
2) Laptop Asus N53SV-XE1
3) Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit
4) Live 8.2.2
5) Intel Core i7-2630QM @2.00GHz quad core
6) 12 GB RAM
7) Audio Kontrol 1
8) 7200
9) 8

and after the ASUS Power4Gear Hybrid was uninstalled...

1) 17% (peak)
2) Laptop Asus N53SV-XE1
3) Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit
4) Live 8.2.2
5) Intel Core i7-2630QM @2.00GHz quad core
6) 12 GB RAM
7) Audio Kontrol 1
8) 7200
9) 8

note: the only other thing I did to my computer was install Seagate Drive setting software so my external drive would stop spinning down all the time. However, I was running the ableton test off of my desktop (C drive) so I don't think this could have helped in any way.

I gotta say this computer rocks, especially for the price. Cheers.

@prr

Do you have a firewire input on your laptop? 17" or 15" screen?

Thank you
