Behringer FCA202 and ableton

Post by djgoldenmonkey » Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:13 pm

Hello there!

I am looking for a firewire audio interface to record my bass guitar, and this one seems to be the best from my minimal research.

What I would LOVE to do, is connect my bass directly to ableton, and be able to play my bass and add some audio effects on my bass playing in real time, just like you can do with any other internal instrument in live. (amp, flanger, phaser, sounds like fun to me...)

Is this possible??

btw i'm on a macbook pro if that makes any difference

The FCA 202 has no preamp. You can't plug it directly in the interface.

Else this interface works great with mac. It is plug and play.

I have a xenyx 802 mixer, so I could plug the bass in there, and connect the fca202 with the mixer right?

even still, how do you set up ableton to recognize an external instrument? or will it just naturally show up?

For mac it rules.
For windows, it only runs with windows xp 32bits.

I use inputs with a microphone plugged to a boss GT-10 [which has preamp] and it is very efficient for the price.

1: yes
2: Arm an audio track, select input 1 or 2, and hit record!

I have been using that since 2006 with a MX802A (Behringer Mixer).
With my iMac works great. You can listen to the results following my signature's links.
For today's Mac lacking a FW400 port you can use a FW800 to FW400 cable.
No drivers. Stay away from Leopard 10.5.8 and Tiger 10.4.10 because it won't work correctly due to a
odd FW Audio implementation. Snow Leopard 10.6.7 here, all ok!

PS : All on this forum will tell you it's a crappy interface... I think this is not true :-)

You're so right Pasha.
It's an awesome soundcard.
