KRK Rokit 6 monitor makes Click-sound when turned off

Post by UnCL0NED » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:29 am

Recently I noticed that one of my KRK Monitors make a loud Click/Pop sound when I switch it off. It's not every time, but very random (to my knowledge).
Is this a serious issue? Maybe something that can be solved easily?

I sent the question above over a week ago to the KRK Customer Support, but I haven't had any reply since.
It's a shame KRK doesn't care about their users. Companies shouldn't say they have customer support when they don't!

Anyway, maybe any of you guys know if this is something that I can solve easily or I should be worried about at all...

Thanks.

Yup I'm familiar with this. I have the KRK VXTs and sometimes the speakers 'pop' quite loudly when turning them off. I found turning down the volume on my soundcard to mimimum helps as you essential stop the audio signal from going to the speakers. I used to use an audio 8 soundcard and as it has no volume control and super high outputs on it, they poped all the time, now I have a focusrite, I turn the volume down down before turning the speakers off. Give it a try and let me know if it helps

Hey rnicholas_62,

Thanks for the reply. In a way I'm glad to hear I'm not alone having this problem, and that there is a "rather simple" solution for it. I will try turning the volume down next time before turning the monitor off, which hopefully will solve this. I also have a Focusrite soundcard btw...

I have the KRK Rokit 5s and I've noticed the same thing too.

When you want to switch them on, first turn on the soundcard and then the monitors.
When you want to switch them off, first turn those off and then the soundcard. (If you turn off the soundcard first, you will hear the 'pop' sound you mentioned.)

Hope this helps.

You should always turn down the levels on any audio sources going into your monitors, as well as then turning them completely off, before turning your monitors off. Conversely, turn your speakers on before turning any audio source on that go into them and be sure the levels are down on the audio source before doing that.

Turned the levels of my audio interface down before turning them off, multiple times and it seems to solve the problem.
I am just wondering now, how it is possible (theoretically) that it always happens with only 1 monitor (in my case left) and not with both?

Also I was told in the past that you always turn off the monitors first instead of the audio interface and work your way towards the source, and when turning everything on you do it the other way around. So turning on would be Power > Computer > Synths > External effects > Audio Interface > Monitors and turning everything off it would be visa versa.
But according to you guys I have been misinformed.

Thanks for all the help...

I have the same problem, and I found a temporary solution:
Disconnect the power cord, before you turn them off.
Then it doesn't make that poping sound.

Yeah, I mean is just a temporary solution. I really dont have $120 for the part that apparently blow up inside. I tried it and for now Im Happy with the results of not hearing it pop.

I always turn my soundcard all the way down, turn off the speakers and then turn off the power supply they are connected to BEFORE shutting down my computer or disconnecting my soundcard..

Don't know if that will help you since you seem to be getting pops when turning them off but it's worth mentioning that your speakers are the last thing you turn on when you power on your setup and the first thing you turn off when you power down your setup 8)

The Rokits G1 ALL click when being turned on/off. The G2s and VXTs have a different internal circuit configuration that prevents this. If yours are G2s and click then I'd take them in for repair.
