tips on how to do advanced wobble bass techniques?
tips on how to do advanced wobble bass techniques?
Ive spent some time learning how to get the wobble bass sound for dubstep tracks. But all online tutorials stop there. I was wondering if anyone has found any resources on taking it a step further and doing pitch shifting, how to go from one rate to the next w/ a smooth transition, how to layer them, etc etc
Ive been doing it on my own for awhile now, and I like the sounds im getting but I think I could use some guidance and see how other more advanced users approach this.
Thanks!

I'm guessing here but can't you just automate the pitch bend. It makes very smooth pitch changes. And you can do anything you want.
I found with some plug ins the pitch bend just shows up in the list of automated parameters but with Abletons native instruments I can't find the pitch bend to be automated. Curious?
FYI - I'm not in front of my Ableton set up right now

The vids I've seen have been Super basic... Most just saying turn up the lfo and set it to sync. I'd like to see some good vids too.. I want some DEEP nasty wobbles. I've experimented on my own (i'm no sound designer) made a few racks layering instruments and setting the sync to the macros... But the ones I made still sound boring.
I guess the vids I would actually want to see would be based on 'How to make quality bass sounds' then just add the wobble to it. Cause to me, most of the stock sounds that I've experimented with all sound weak to me. That new THUD free Live pack has some decent bass sounds in it but I haven't messed with them yet. I really hope Ableton uses some new 'sound designers' for Live 9, cause most of the stock sounds feel lame to me.

there really isnt much more advanced to learn. you haven't mentioned a sub-bass sound, which is usually an octave below the bass sound and a sine wave with no LFO on it. this will give you some more meat. otherwise, layering of different synth sounds is where you can get unique sounds. if you are using sampler, you can set the LFO to modulate almost any parameter, including pitch, resonance, and all sorts of crazy shit. or you can set up individual envelopes for pitch, etc. or, like djadonis206 said, use the clip envelope to fuck with the pitch.

there's no such thing as advance wobble techniques, there are wobbles, they sync or they don't, what you're looking for is advanced bass processing techniques, look into multiband distortions, resampling, layering, and such, your wobbles sound boring because wobbles are boring, but you can make brutal basslines with heavy movement that help you transcend the shittyness of wobble basses with these techniques. You're going to have to process the hell out of your bass if you want anything more than generic BS.

yea i have sub bass down ok
and ive used the pitch bend automation
like the above said, most online tutorials are: detune, filter, LFO, mess with rate ,I was jus curious to see what other people do from there

heh, apparently I was grumpy earlier, I just started getting into resampling for dnb bass sounds, so I've been inundating myself with threads. Heres a couple to get you started:
http://www.dubstepforum.com/for-those-w ... resampling
http://durkkooistra.com/2011/02/28/bass ... ue-part-1/
http://vimeo.com/18154384
that last one is vital, because it will help you break out of songs that just wobble their way from start to finish. You gotta break that shiz up with stabs and deep sub bits.
not sure exactly what style you're going for, I'm not much for dubstep but I like stuff like Broken Note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1ihdW-u5Mg what with the brrchawowowaaaahwuwuwuwuwbzzzrrrow, not so much into the wubwubwubwub dubstep, the above stuff is pretty good for that sort of deep chaotic distorted type of thing.

Re: tips on how to do advanced wobble bass techniques?
Yesterday I had some friends listening to a remix I am working on and they said that the bass was missing some energy.
I think this thread is exactly addressing my problem. I can't wait to go home and try out some of these techniques mentioned here.
Thanks for the input guys!!!

I may or may not be joking but try using a vocoder. Either with some automated settings, or if you're feeling really fruity, literally use a mic and your mouth to go wob-wob-wob and use that as the modifier on your mega-processed bass carrier.
Live 7.0.18 | Axiom 61 | Launchpad | Homous | Nanokontrol | Saffire 6 | Ibanez Jazzmaster Bass | Biscuits

Massive and lfo tool by xfer to have up to 12 different wobble shapes which are then triggered by an octave of keys in an additional midi track controlling the track with massive the just jam!perplex wrote:Massive + LFOs filter wobble

Messed around with frequency band splitting and treating them separately... and man: My bass-lines are exploding now
Suddenly OhmForce Ohmicide makes a lot of sense to me...
Great stuff!!!
