performance problems with a intel i7

Post by chillipowder » Sun Jul 24, 2011 8:43 am

Hello,

I am working with a sony vaio VPCF13S1E with Intel Core i7 740QM Notebook Prozessor, 6 GB memory and a audio 4 DJ soundcard, driver 3.0.0, windows 7. When i play a bassline with a slightly modified string bass / fretless bass i use 80 -90% of the processor as ssen on top right in the cpu - usage. Is that normal? Becuase when i check my system monitor when playing the tune, only 15% of the CPU are used. It is as if ableton live doesnt get the full cpu - power..

Thanks for any help.

That's pretty high for a single instrument on that kind of machine.

Ableton will always show a higher CPU usage than the actual because its showing (I believe) the amount of CPU power it has access too and for a multi-processor CPU I believe it can only use 2 cores.

With your soundcard, are you using ASIO drivers? I'd look at that as being the culprit. Try playing with some of the buffer settings.
