Re: whats the best sample editor to get?
MUCH, MUCH easier and faster than doing it in Ableton.

For Mac, I use "Twisted Wave" as a sample editor. Works fine.
Actually, it works really nice. Very fast on large files as well...

If your in session view: highlight the section you want, Command L to activate the loop brackets, right click and crop (Ps. this creates a new sample you might want to use a copy of your original clip)WPK Radio wrote:I use Audacity as well. Wonderful.
It's kind of annoying that when you cut a piece from an entire song and drag that into sampler or simpler, the whole damn song goes with it. But the start/end points are edited to wherever you made your chops, but you can see the waveform for the entire song. lol. Am I doing something wrong?
pretty similar in arrangement too

Re: whats the best sample editor to get?
ableton slice to midi is nice for chopping up audio and simple to use. you can make your own slice presets too. i made one where all my slices play at full volume and the release turned all the way up (this works good with chopping up drum breaks). i also made one that is the same as i just mentioned, but with all the chops in mute group 1 (so it works like and mpc, where if you chop up a sample, the pads cut each other off)
i also love pro tools for editing. tab to transient, slice or consolidate, then go to your audio regions to the right and export them as .wav files. doing it this way you don't have to wait for pro tools to export in real time. also beat detective in pro tools works nice, kinda like recycle.
hope that helps. that's how i get down.

You're joking. Audacity doesn't lend itself to quickly editing, saving and returning back to Ableton Live..?mnmlmike wrote:Audacity in the houssseee!
actually.... I use Peak
Am I missing some configuration aspect of Audacity that others consider dead-obvious?

On Windows I loved Soundforge. Hated Wavelab. On mac Twistedwave is the closest I've found.

On OS X check out DSP Quattro, it is a real competitor to Peak. Its by the guy that did D Sound Pro and Spark (for TC). Also does CD Mastering, Batch Processing, and a lot more.
They are having a 50% off sale now too, so its ony $99 and 79euro.

Wave Editor does. just use 'alt' + left mouse button (on Mac osx) when you've zoomed in on the part you want to edit, and start drawing.chapelier fou wrote:Does any of them have a pencil tool ?? Very useful in soundforge to remove very fast peaks and glitches.

Re: whats the best sample editor to get?
Any wave editor should allow you do do that. I know Wave Editor, Peak, BIAS, Sound Forge, Wavelab do for sure.
