i did not realize that there is no set message for live.button.

that was me being a little overconfident.

the other option is to bang on transition from and to zero.

isn't this about the 'modulation mode' in the inspector, there you can fiddle with how Live handles the gui object in terms of mapping...?
Who else has been sick of 4/4 for the last 10 years ??

@zlatko - no, that attribute is not even editable in this scenario

Present Day:

Even when a live.text object is in button mode it behaves the exact same way as in toggle mode when triggered by remote MIDI or even qwerty keys. It behaves properly in both modes when triggered by mouse clicks however.

This occurs in Live 8.2.2, Max 5.1.8

As a workaround I'm using a dummy live.text in toggle mode that bangs the button on each transition.
After mapping to the dummy it can be hidden with 'Hide on Lock' in the inspector.

Another solution, that ensures the button gives correct visual feedback

I've just found the easiest workaround:
guess what...
Instead of a live.button, just use a live.dial, with a "sel 0 127" to a toggle.
That way it will work like any "native" Live dial parameter mapped do a key.
It was so simple, and it took 2 years to find it!!!
Funny!
