Good luck with that - hope your all ok - looks a fucking mess :(

Wife watching the carnage in clapham in horror - she lived there (couple of hundred yards up the road) and still has friends around there - they all ok thankfully.

Wasn't really anything to do on Mare street by the time I showed up (a little late, but just got back from a festival). Actually looked pretty normal.

very true...
that is our true goal in this lifetime...
by being 'better' people we'll make the world better...

one prorblem though ...
every person perceives 'better' in a different way..
most people pick/or are born into a "truth" and just run with it..
creating conflicts and tensions..

and so we go on...
all of those "dramatic"/"scary" world events you're describing/feeling...
are nothing new in this world...

it's just that internets/communication technology brings everything closer ..
and updates us at a very fast pace... (it's evolution baby!)

so the wheels keep turning ! (so far)
thank god.

What a load of utter fucking bullshit. The world will become a better place when PARENTS teach their kids to treat other human beings with dignity and respect, and that this response is their natural and normal reaction in the situations they find themselves in.. Use whatever fucking moral code you want, I don't care, but when you reach out to help rather than take, thats when true community is born. I can try and better myself all I want, but if my kid soaks up the propaganda machines focus on materialism and image as the sole way to happiness, then there is nothing of value in my legacy. There is value in the Nature/Nurture debate, but soooooo many kids are simply nurtured by default to grow up to be retarded. The only way the world will become a better place is if 'betterment' is passed on.

exactly...
I agree with you so I don't understand why you think it's bs..
good education/moral code.. learning to try and see the bigger picture
the parents become better people...they become role models..
and in general
..consequently their kids get good morals as well at their core
also ...
raising a child is NOT A SIMPLE TASK..
parents decisions change their kids live's personalities in dramatic ways.
there are so many parameters in there... it's heavy stuff!
also consider theres bad influence from the childs surroundings/atmosphere/society

and as long as our "role-models" as citizen
(which are our worlds' leaders of course)
are corrupt...money grabbing ...non empathic...liers..dry assholes (=politicians)
completely disconnected from their people...
this behavior manifests itself on the family cell and society in many sickening forms..

to he clear.
it's a true war.. education.
this is why most organized religions encourage massive procreation withing their flock...
to "spread their word" by the numbers..

if you consider yourself a kind moral person...
try ..
always to better yourself...
people pick up on that..
you can even educate people without being their parent..
eduction and morals are not exclusive to parents..
they're a way of life
btw a parent can be substituted by a good role-model

I'll end with a quote :
"
When I was young I thought I could change the world.
As I got older I realized that was not possible so I thought I could change my Country.
As I grew older I realized that was not going to happen so I sought to change my City.
As I grew older still, I realized that was out of my reach.
So I decided I could change my family only to learn that I couldn't.

I am an old man now and I have learned to try and change myself.

Hi 3dot...
This could quickly become a 'chicken or egg' thing, but I maintain that a persons journey of betterment is never ending. In and of itself, this journey can become a comfort zone of selfishness, or inward looking. I would suggest that a person can make a positive change to another persons life without having really dealt with their own flaws. My reference to Parents and their children is because thats the perfect storm, there is nothing like trying to do a good job of raising a child while having the process and the child reveal your never ending list of flaws. :)

yeah ...my points were other...
the world is not so much different than before many years.
and education(self improvement) is the key to the human race/world success in the future

when you learn and implement some good trait from someone..
pass it forward..
actively educate.
whether you're a parent or not. be the role-model.
of course you will probably never reach perfection in your lifetime...
(all good traits implemented and...
all bad traits/habits destroyed)
we all learn as we go along of course..
sometimes the easy way and sometimes the hard way
(is there any other way?)

and yes. kids are enlightening.. not a parent myself .
but I can see how raising a child will provide you a mirror to look back at yourself ..
your life experiences.. coming to terms with your own chidhood..
this too is a learning process of course..

of course I'm speaking in very general terms...

Terry Kath was awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gje_0OMj ... re=related

Chicago:

Dialogue (Part I)

Terry
Are you optimistic
'bout the way things are going?

Peter
No, I never ever think of it at all

Terry
Don't you ever worry
When you see what's going down?

Peter
Well, I try to mind my business,
that is, no business at all

Terry
When it's time to function
as a feeling human being, will your
Bachelor of Arts help you get by?

Peter
I hope to study further,
a few more years or so. I also hope
to keep a steady high

Terry
Will you try to change
things, use the power that you have,
the power of a million new ideas?

Peter
What is this power you
speak of and this need for things to
change? I always thought
that everything was fine, everything
is fine

Terry
Don't you feel repression just
closing in around?

Peter
No, the campus here is very, very free

Terry
Don't it make you angry
the way war is dragging on?

Peter
Well, I hope the President
knows what he's into, I don't know.
Oh, I just don't know

Terry
Don't you ever see the starvation
in the city where you live, all the
needless hunger all the
needless pain?

Peter
I haven't been there lately,
the country is so fine, but my
neighbors don't seem hungry 'cause
they haven't got the time, haven't got
the time

Terry
Thank you for the talk,
you know you really eased my mind.
I was troubled by the shapes
of things to come.

Peter
Well, if you had my
outlook your feelings would be
numb, you'd always think
that everything was fine,
everything was fine.

Dialogue (Part II)

Group
We can make it better
We can make it better
We can make it better
Yeah, yeah, yeah

We can change the world now
We can change the world now
We can change the world now

We can save the children
We can save the children
We can save the children
Yeah yeah yeah

We can make it happen
We can make it happen
We can make it happen

We can save the children
We can save the children
We can save the children
Yeah, yeah, yeah

We can make it happen
We can make it happen
