Problem Loading Clips

Post by mooz1 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 9:43 am

Yo. I downloaded the latest version of Ableton from Official Site (30 day trial). I have a problem loading full clips. They don't load fully, i.e. when i try to load a 3 min mp3 track it loads only 15s or 1min, sometimes it loads full track and i dont really understand this becouse all tracks im trying to load are 140bpm. Warping is off, Same thing happens in arangement window and in session window. I have enough disk space and i am using windows 7.

Anyone?

I'd take the time to read about "Clip Properties" and "Warping clips" in the manual. Basically everything on clips. While reading, I'd suggest that you have a few full songs and a few loop clips ready to play around with, experiment with ideas that you get from reading it. get your juices flowing. all that fun stuff.

In your third screenshot, you clearly have the clip end set to 17.1.1, with loop off, so it'll play the first 16 bars then stop.

Change this and your problem's solved. I can see that the clip has loaded fully, so that's not an issue.

thanks for the answer.. however u don't understand my problem. full clip is longer than 26 bars. the other part of the track is not visible in ableton. its a full track, around 17 there is a drop and then its cut off at 26. i need to know what to do to load a full clip when i drag and drop an mp3 to ableton. hope this clears it out

Just humour me for a second... Have you tried adjusting the clip length?

in the clip view (visible at the bottom of screenshot 3), to the left of the little yellow rectangle that says "warp", there's a start and an end box... where it says 17 in the end box, type, like 200 and hit enter...

oh.. that.. it doesn't do anything except extending the clip window. the clip itself stays the same. any other ideas?

As ollyb303 said, you have the clip set to only play a small section of the overall sample (song). Look at my markup of your third screen shot -- http://i53.tinypic.com/28taow8.png. Notice that I have indicated the four components that determine which parts of the clip will play. The clip will start playing wherever the "start marker" is set. The clip will loop the region selected by the "loop bar." And the clip will stop playing where the "stop marker" is set.

In your screenshot, the start marker is set to the same point as the start of the loop bar, and the stop marker is set to the same point as the end of the loop bar. Therefore, only the section selected by the loop bar is going to play when you start the clip.

If you zoom out on the sample view, then you can adjust the end of the loop bar, and the stop marker, to be set at the end of the sample. Then the whole sample would play from beginning to end.

Here is a tutorial that covers the clip view -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78hr9XYQoko

if u look at the second screenshot the length of the clip is the same.. but it is not a full track. its not even half of it. when i'm dragging the track into ableton from the explorer it cuts a part of it and this is the real problem.

ill try to fix it after work and if i still wont be able i will try exporting the project and posting here.

You're right about the inconsistency but I think shouldn't mention warping at all. I don't think it has anything to do with my problem. I just want to drag an mp3 file to my ableton and be able to see it fully and play it fully and that is not possible atm. However recently i discovered that it works perfectly for wav files. I'm playing with full tracks which generally come from beatport.
