Playing NanoPad as an instrument LIVE. help

Hello everyone,

I desire to play my nano pad as a VST in ableton as i perform tracks, however 9/10 times when i open up ableton i get no key note response when i play a note on my nano pad, for example ill select the massive vst and attempt to play my nano pad as a midi controller and i get no sound. The midi input light does light up in the top right hand corner when i press a note, but i get no sound. Ay simple fixes?

Monitor -> IN on the track?
Record Arm the track?

Also you should always see midi-action on the indicator in the track (the one that says 'All channels'/'Channel x'), irregardless of arm/Monitoring status. So check that aswell.
