Question about Bit Depth

Hi all,

I had a quick question about bit depth. I just realized that I have been doing a bunch of projects with my project bit depth at 16. I want all these projects to now be at 24 bit for obvious reasons. I know that when you bounce you can also choose a bit depth to bounce at. What happens if I change the project bit depth midway through a project? Also, seeing as how my work flow is mainly sample based and most of my samples are probably in 16-bit, will it even make a difference for my project to be in 24-bit and bounce to 24-bit?

No... not really. (not audible anyway)

If you are going to make a CD or mp3 of your song there is no reason to run in 24 bit, as both formats doesn't support resolutions higher than 16bit.

The bit depth isn't only about the quality of your audio files, but also the plugins....so if you switch to 24 bit depth half-way through a project and then start doing things like convolution reverbs, dithering, etc, then you will benefit from the higher bit-depth.

If yu are just doing this for live work, it probably won't matter to you, and you may want to save your CPU.
