APC40 Power Button Gone

Post by UnCL0NED » Thu Sep 01, 2011 4:23 pm

I just wanted to turn on my APC40 and when I pushed in the power button I just pushed it all the way into the APC40. Now there's a hole in the place where it used to be

I thought these controllers were supposed to be build like a tank for live performing? Apparantly not :-(
Can I just unscrew the APC40 on the back/bottom to put it back in place or do I really need to send it off to get it fixed?

If it's under warranty, I would definitely send it off, as you don't want to void the warranty and then be SOL if a bigger problem happens down the road.

If your warranty is out, you should be able to fix it yourself. Opening the APC40 the first time is kind of a pain to figure out, but once you do it, it's very simple to understand.

:-)

I will have to open it myself, because I already own it for over 2 years.
Does anyone have any tips when opening it up? Are there maybe technical drawings of the APC40 on the internet?

Thanks

there are instructional photos and breakdowns of dismantling and APC40, I'm not sure where, but I am sure I have seen them.

This vid is from a guy who's combined both apc40 & apc20, he had to unmount devices so you have all needed in the vid in matter of screw holes and required precautions to do it with no arm for your controler.

BTW APC80 is so much sexy

Good luck man

Hey bud, did you manage to fix your power button?

I have had the same problem.

APC 40 was in my gig bag, when I took it out, suddenly the power button was gone, pushed inside the device.

Mine is quite old too so I will have to fix myself or take into a shop or something.

If you have any advice on a DIY fix, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

All products on the store nowaday is all MADE IN CHINA except something like over $5,000 products. We can't expect decent products for them.

if you open it, just bypass the power button, really, i never ever turned it off with it, i either unplug it or turn off the mains on the conditionner unit

opening is a PITA cause the sides are ridiculously well attached (3 hex plus 4 screws from the inside) (and like 16 screws for the backplate

i wonder with all those low grade china stuff, how come they spend so much on useless decorative sides and attachements, BUT every knob and faded is pcb mounted and knobs are not even secured to the frame with nuts which makes the PCB easy to break if a knob/fader get hit, BUT the plastic sides are super secured

makes me wish for some non boutique company to just offer the hardcore rugged option on devices like that that are meant to be slammed

i remember my first pcb mounted device, the mc505, oh my god was i affraid to break it just tweaking (and i did break a solder joint on a knob before i decided to reinforce every single knob with nuts)

@liamshy : I did manage to fix it!

These images http://www.illuminatedsounds.com/?p=744
together with the Youtube movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lD1rL-ions
Should be enough to disassemble the APC40.

After that you should be able to find the button inside. Hopefully the button itself is still in one piece (it consists of a few different parts). In my case the two copper connection parts were all over the place. They are small so make sure you work on a clean surface, otherwise they will be very difficult to find. The button itself is just something you can click on board. It's no wonder you can push it in easily. Also everytime I turn the power on now, all the lights blink one time. I think I bent something when I tried to click the button back in place.

I think I have some pictures, so I'll have a look for you later and post them (at work at the moment).

Good luck with it!

Thanks everybody for your help!
