Does anybody understand it?
If I record in the arrange view with the loop turned on, there is a long audio clip produced.
How can I than choose which take I want to keep and how can I delete the trash audio around it?
The manual did not provide much help on that. I think I saw an article about that but I cannot find it anymore (and I am to dull to find out myself)

So what do you do?
1/You activate the loopswitch button,
2/choose the length of the loop [1.x.x -> x.x.x ] ...
3/You activate Record button
4/You do your thing in session
While you're doing so the arranger will record over and over within the loopregion you have offset above .... .
It will not make different loops one beside another ... for that you would need to disactivate the loopswitch and than manually select and resample your work in appropriate loops.

That I understand, but...
most time this amnner of loop-recording serves one porpose: recording a motive several time over the same playback and THEN CHOOSE the best performance.
This step is what I cannot figure out - how to choose from the long file I produced. Am I just too stupid to find the correct keypoints?

Than you definetly don't need to activate the loopswitch as this will "overwrite" your previously recorded loop ...
I think it comes down also how complex your basic arrangement is , in order to define your correct looppoints .
The best workaround I suggest is resample the fixed basic arrangement to an empty sessionslot with the loopswitch on to the desired length , so you create a "perfect" loop of that arrangement.
You could now delete the original arrangement, only keeping the resampled clip , or just save this arrangement and open a new session and insert your resampled clip + the new elements you want to introduce.
If you now go crazy on the new elements, while your resampled arrangement is playing, in arrangerview, there is a little marker each time your resampled clip loops ... these are your perfect looppoints .... also from the new elements below this

No overwriting but a long file

Set the loop to one bar and recorded in the loop mode 8 times
Result is an audio file 8 bars long (with a loop set to one bar) which you can see in the clip view by clipping on the recorded clip.
I understand now, that I can choose the audio to playback by setting the right loop.
But how can I delete the trash audio from the clip (if I record "tape style" wich means recordings of 16 or more bars there will be a lot of data to be deleted)?
Do i have to open it in an extern audio editor?
But I would not see the bars and loops in an editor so correct editing would be mere chance
maybe someone from Ableton has a solution?
Ok, we had a little misunderstanding I think :
I thought you were recording your tryouts to the arranger, in which case you could easily delete the non-relevant parts.
If you resample immediatly to a new wav than you have to use an external editor
