Smooth Automation Curves
Smooth Automation Curves
Hi all,
My question is for Ableton team: do you plan to implement smooth automation curves? It's really a pain to smooth linear automation curves.
Thank you!

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
Yes! I agree and have posted a similar request on the forum.Like I mentioned in my last post, Ableton has already implemented the technology in other areas of the program (The new fade tool between clips for example). A curve editor for automation in the clips/arrange would be a godsend.
Re: Smooth Automation Curves
It seems that Ableton simply ignores this topic (1+ year - no answer, no such feature). Very disappointing!

This is basic and is even in FL Studio. Ableton is a great product but it really needs this standard feature.

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
Have you tried turning off quantize and using the draw tool on automation curves? Not perfectly smooth, but gets pretty close. Just a suggestion incase this doesn't become a feature...

and also snap points to beats.

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
As i know, even reaper has bezier curves for automation. For snapping i usually use clip's internal automation possibilities.Tweaking Knobs wrote:+1

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
+1 for anything regarding easier use of automation curves.
I hate to say it as a customer who uses the Suite every day 2 hours minimum, but Live feels outdated and archaic when setting up and editing the curves.
This is something that should really be dealt with, especially because Live is such an astonishing and ground-breaking tool in many other aspects - Inspiration shouldn't be hindered by technical obstacles. I often spend much time on doing workarounds and meticulously drawing curves, time that could very well be spent actually making music.
Bad enough you spend too much time playing around with audio FX, amirite?

Are there any news on this topic?
I'm almost ready to switch to Reaper, as it's developers really care about the feature requests.

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
+1. It's such a simple feature it should already be a part of Live.

Re: Smooth Automation Curves
yeah uh ok.
today i nearly sold my license out of pure frustration.
i had this thing tha t i needed to do, and it needed a smooth automation curve, and i had to opt to rewrite that entire section because hand editing it would be too tedious, especially considering that i was working a nonfixed bpm alternating some 300bpm up and down on numerous occasions.
give us better precision and give us proper curves and give it now goddammit.
