make my bass sound like a guitar

Hey guys,
Im wondering if there is a convincing way to transpose bass chords that I play on my electric bass up an octave or two and give it a guitar sound? I used the transpose knob 12 to move the audio up 12 st but it just sounds like shit. I have heard of free plugins that will do this well but i cant seem to find any... any suggestions?

how about an octave pedal for bass that adds an octave. the electro harmonix bass micro synth does that plus a whole lot more. there are a lot of pedals that add octaves, i forget which other ones add the octave above, most of em seem to add the octave below.
